Afaik, she hasn’t denied it, she just repeats that focusing on this is a dirty disgusting tactic aimed at her family. And she’s not wrong about that. Unfortunately, dirty tactics are so often used by people without scruples because they’re often effective.

I’ve never understood this argument. If the Republicans take the presidency in 2024 and there’s no significant response, all of those people will experience the same “abandonment”, only they’ll have nowhere to go.

Can we please stop using the word addiction? No one in online discussion agrees on what it means, so it always ends with angry people screaming past each other.

At some point we’re going to have to realize that the “no woman who’s made a sex tape is eligible for office” thing is keeping women out of office. (Sex tapes tend not to have the same effect on male politicians, unless they actually did or said something manifestly immoral, and the number of enby politicians isn’t big enough for a good sample size.)

Do you know how easy geoengineering is to fuck up? And how global and severe the consequences are if we do? Plus, geoengineering is the kind of thing one country, or a billionaire moron on a private island, could do, and kill us all. I’m not saying there’s no place for geoengineering, only that the only reasonable place for it is after pretty much everything else has failed. We really don’t need or want The Year Without A Summer on repeat for decades.

If you redistributed the money equally instead of having some people inherit it, I kind of doubt everyone would be “poor” in the way you seem to mean. It’s more that no one would be “rich,” which would probably be a stabilizing factor, given that right now we have pre-French-Revolution levels of inequality.

I absolutely would compare caffeine with heroin when making the point that the term “addiction” has become so broad as to be meaningless.

Well, I guess we strongly disagree.

I’m not promoting religion. I’m not religious. (I don’t believe it’s always bad faith, either, but…) I’m saying don’t set out to make life harder for groups that already face significant discrimination. And you’re saying you’d prefer to punch down because you don’t like this group. At least now I know who you are.

If you think prison’s worse than death for an innocent person, feel free to ask people who were exonerated after decades in prison if they’d rather have been killed.

Gee, maybe it’s because we’re talking about a group that’s extremely vulnerable, a group that a lot of people are determined to commit democide against. Even if you feel how you feel for completely innocent reasons, it’s reasonable for people to assume otherwise. Lots of extremists start out sounding vaguely reasonable.

If you think we don’t have a lot of institutional and popular support for right-authoritarianism, I don’s know what country you’ve been living in the last 20 years. Who’s going to stop him? The Democrats? The party that’d bring a policy paper to a gunfight? I hope I’m wrong and things are as rosy as you think. But I won’t bet my life on it.

Bold of you to assume I took the time to read the other stuff he posted. And ignoring trolls doesn’t actually do much to discourage them, ime. So I’ll keep doing as I please, thanks.

I’m sure. I mostly use that term for accuracy, because I don’t believe language will change minds on this issue.
