Their parts get made. They get manufactured. Pretty sure that involves fairly substantial emissions, just not compared to what we have now.

Most people making those complaints at this point are bad-faith conservatives.

Congress repuires publicly-traded companies to do the bidding of shareholders, so it’s at least partly their fault.

If the alternative would be cutting production by 95%? Yes.

Funding is finite. Every bit of new EV-improvement research represents funding that could have been used elsewhere, like windmill-improvement research.

I understand the world you want to live in, but EV production causes too many emissions for it to be a global solution. If we don’t make the kind of changes now that would normally take 100 years because we recognize the seriousness of the threat, no amount of EV production will save us.

If the state can take those human rights from a criminal, they can make laws that define any one of us as criminal and take them from us.

That’s not eugenics. To qualify as eugenics, you’d have to be getting genetic counseling because you wanted to improve the human race, not because you think it’d be unethical to make your kid go through the same suffering you did with a genetic disease. Making eugenics more palatable by ignoring the ideology that defines it can harm people, so please stop.

It’ll never work. The Athenians tried and failed. Get back to your plow. Feudalism is the only realistic system that accommodates human nature.

Garbage collectors are way more likely to die on the job than cops, and they don’t shoot innocent people on the regular. Peddle your false equivalencies elsewhere.

Plus, unless you’re a complete fool, you know perfectly well that a good percentage of people saying “police are the enemy” are using that as shorthand for “policing as it exists in the US today makes the police the enemy.”

Plus, most people aren’t willing to uproot their lives for a single political belief (assuming they can afford to), so I don’t see why you’re holding this group of people to a higher standard.

They may self-ID as “conservative,” but their policy preferences are reactionary. Accepting the self-descriptions of bad faith extremists is part of how we got here in the first place.

People don’t generally change their gender on a whim, so that doesn’t make the info less useful. (Even if it did, trans people are like 2% of the population, so it would still apply for everyone else.) Men and women have different perspectives and life experiences because the world treats them differently. Do you think knowing the age, race, or country demographics would be pointless, too?

At a point where we ignore people who set themselves on fire in protest, it’s hard to argue that nonviolent protest by itself accomplishes much anymore, soo…🤷🏼‍♀️

The only thing actually preventing secession is Supreme Court precedent (Texas v. White), and since that’s generally on fire…maybe we have more choices than we think.

Because capitalism’s the dominant economic system, and thus deeply related to most people’s problems? Don’t like it? I’m sure there are right-leaning Lemmy instances that rarely talk about capitalism.

Only like 5 countries have a GDP bigger than California, it’s where the world’s dominant media comes from, and is home to many of the US’s big tech companies. If companies are that stupid, competitors should step in to offer alternatives pretty quickly. (Probably California companies, creating new California jobs.)
