  • If you imprison an innocent, they can be freed. Execution takes away that possibility. And we have absolutely, provably, executed innocent people. I hope that never happens to you, but if life were a play, it would certainly make for some dramatic irony.

  • Since sending you off to Google “own the libs fascism” won’t do very much: The fourteen major elements of fascism identified by Umberto Eco in Ur-Fascism are here: https://www.openculture.com/2016/11/umberto-eco-makes-a-list-of-the-14-common-features-of-fascism.html Not sure how anyone could possibly misunderstand it being right wing. Was it the adherence to strict binary gender roles or the contempt for weakness that made you think it was leftist? /s

If you have a commonly accepted comprehensive definition of fascism you prefer, present it and we can discuss. Otherwise, here’s your answer.

  • If you don’t think mass movements for human rights are “political,” what do you think “political” means? I’m seriously asking. Do you not think civil rights marches were political, either? I do not understand.

    1. What exactly do you think would show them? I am not powerful, and the system is rigged.
    2. Why do you assume I’m voting straight-ticket Dem on WFP? If nothing else, our electoral votes are going to the Dem for president regardless of what I do. I’m considering writing in Chuck Tingle, frankly. My conscience will feel good and there will be zero effect on the outcome. The Dems fucked up their job so bad I had to have my tubes out to sleep at night. Fuck all this noise.
  • Pretty sure I’ve never murdered anyone personally, but I’m actually pretty much constantly talking about my country’s murderous policies. Which ones? Chile? El Salvador? Laos? Iraq? I’m a leftist, I can talk about that shit all day. I think we’re dicks. I’m just also antiauthoritarian, so I think the Chinese government are dicks, too.

  • I know, me pointing out that the pompous way you phrased your opinion made it sound like you thought you were expounding on universal truths isn’t going to stop you. It wasn’t intended to. Maybe if you don’t want pushback next time, avoid the phrase “have forfeited their right to live.”

  • Jealousy isn’t the only reason to feel that way. I don’t trust most rich people, not because I grew up poor, but because I didn’t. And the last thing I want is to watch them cosplay as radical artists, because I know actual radical artists.

  • I actually think a lot is the opposite. If you think an event like this, attended by the likes of Bezos and Musk, is countercultural, or even “brings positivity into the world”, I have a beautiful bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. Of course most Burners have jobs, it’s a techbro’s dream. Plus, tickets are more expensive than they were in the old days, so real hippies can’t go. If people want to laugh at the suffering of rich people who cosplay as revolutionary, I’m generally ok with that. One big caveat: I’m very sorry someone died, and I don’t think mocking that’s cool, especially if we don’t know anything about them.

  • Of course. Sects like The Religious Society of Friends and the UUs are definitely brainwashing and oppressing people. That’s not at all an overgeneralization based on your experiences with the strictly hierarchical and imperialist forms of religion that are most dominant in the culture.

  • Being a Catholic in the NE used to be more about ethnic group/culture/family, and now it has become a political thing, just like the South. Makes sense. I had good reason to leave the Church, so I did. Apparently, I wasn’t alone.
