It's only an outlier of you only consider cases of cops being spooked by acorns specifically. I mean this is literally a thread about a cop being spooked into opening up because of fireworks. Cops getting scared who then just start blasting is a pretty common occurrence it would seem, at least compared to how often it should be happening, which is very rarely to never.

One of the best parts of that movie Don't Look Up is that at the very end the super wealthy people made it to a distamt planet and were just immediately eaten by aliens because they had no idea what was going to be on the planet.

Sounds like you have a highly subsidized mortgage. That's why you're being downvoted. Investments are supposed to have risk. The risk of not making a profit is what you take on when you purchase real estate as an investment. It is not a renters problem whether you are profitable or not.

Sounds like you're still getting a sweet deal then. Once the mortgage is paid off you will own property outright that you paid very little for compared to it's value.

Private companies are allowed to have many failures before they succeed, unlike NASA who lose public goodwill and therefore potentially lose funding when they fail. SpaceX blew up a ton of rockets before they succeeded in having the first reusable rocket. It's much faster to iterate this way but also more expensive, so NASA cant really operate this way. Although on the other hand all the private aerospace companies seem to rely on government subsidies so it's pretty crappy we cant just fund NASA more.

Yeah i think the problem is when you just let them talk they will quickly change the subject and start up the gish gallop so interrupting is the only way to actually stay on topic. Otherwise you're just giving them a platform to spew a hundred lies without having a chance to refute anything.

I feel like just more app icons in general are blue than any other color. Off the top of my head in addition to what you mentioned I have shazam, venmo, signal, steam, blink, reolink, dropbox, steam, paypal, discord, max, disney plus. And that's not even counting one's that are majority white but with blue as the only color. I think it's just the most popular design choice or maybe there's some sinister market research somewhere that shows people use/spend more on apps that have blue icons.

There is literally no way to be upfront about communicating 'I have no interest in what you are saying and wish you would stop talking' without coming off like an asshole and/or hurting their feelings most of the time.

But it wouldn't help really at all? Seems like a waste of political capital when mail in ballots/mutliple voting days would actually help something.

But a federal holiday doesn't really help though right? People working at Wendy's don't get existing federal holidays off so it wouldn't change for the majority of people who can't get to the polling stations because of what job they have.

But if it were like he's suggesting, people would complain that those characters final(ish) actions were out of character and it would make no sense for them to do those things. Just because you can see something coming doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable to watch. If you saw two trains heading towards each other on one track you wouldn't look away simply because the you see the outcome coming. There's a difference between foreshadowing and being predictable and imo it's not good criticism.

I disagree; to me it sounds like they're talking about crimes of passion like gunning down a spouse etc. These are the majority of gun homicides but you don't hear about them much because one or two people killed isn't 'newsworthy' on it's own anymore. True mass shootings are infrequent comparatively but because of that and by their nature they're what we hear about. True we shouldn't be regulating based on relatively infrequent tragedies but they can draw attention to firearm homicides as a whole which are a serious issue and not always related to mental health issues in the same way.

Mass shootings account for only 0.1% of firearm homicides.
