  • we need teleportation frankly

Sorry but not in this universe.

It is the same for pretty much all the narrative hand waves that are used to push the story forward. This is not knocking SF but to temper expectations.

    Deep sleep/human hibernation.

FTL travel of any description, including FTL communication.

    Sentient, Self-aware AGI.

Directed energy weapons and EM shields.

  • Not very.

My sister and I get along really well but are not close.

I haven't had any real contact with my brother in the past 5 years. I see him for four hours each year so my parents can have the family together for Christmas dinner and that is it.

  • When I was a kid, saying Timmy does it too, was never a strong argument even then.

But seriously, compared the other Anglo countries countries the US has an issue with political violence. IIRC, there has never been an attempt against a Can, Aus or NZ leader.

  • handle the Donald Trump problem directly and Shinzo Abe him.

45 US presidents, 10 assassination attempts with 4 being successful.

A major part of the problems the USA faces is because they believe political problems (well, most problems really) can be solved with the gun.

  • since athletes can’t be paid,

Remind me again, what is it called when the people generating the wealth are not compensated?

It can actually be a problem for the schools, since athletics isn’t allowed to be profitable. They have to spend all the money athletics brings in on athletics, which is why the athletics department ends up with all the fancy new buildings.

Ah yes, that sounds like a great benefit for students getting an education. Also for the academic staff. Must be great to work at a university as a lecturer and know the football coach earns multiples of your salary.

  • Most commentators there are playing to the gallery rather than answering the questions. The size of the question subs actually makes it harder to get a good answer.

The best karma return per comment is not to craft a lengthy, thoughtful reply but to fire of a snappy one liner as fast as possible.

What I have written is also not inciteful or original. It has been well know for a long time and is pretty much a factor of sub size and the demographic spread of the user base (which skews young, cis, male and american).

  • Some variation of the below:

Can I have your phone with the messaging apps unlocked?

Can I log into your personal email?

Can I see your tax returns?

Can I set up cameras and microphones in your house?

Can I place a GPS tracker on your car?

  • No matter who actually did it. Russia would blame Ukraine/NATO/USA/The West in general, together and separately in rotation.

After that I have no real idea, who would succeed. There would be a massive power struggle both in the government and military.

There is a strong possibility that several of the autonomous regions within the Russian federation would try to break away. There is about a 20% chance of a civil war because of this.

And about a 1% chance of nukes being used.
