  • Ah, yes.

Yet another outcome of climate change that few thought about.

The canal uses fresh water from the lake in its locks, which has been affected by a long term drought...

"This will be the worst El Niño recorded in recent history," company administrator Ricaurte Vásquez Morales said, per the outlet.

So the number of ships allowed to transit is reducing Normally 36 per day, is expected to hit 18 in a couple of months if the drought continues.

I wonder how long it will take until it is cheaper to expend the extra fuel and time to go round cape horn than sit and wait in the line for the canal?

  • I’m not here to call people out.

That is the whole point of this post...

I have never seen the behaviour you describe and you won't provide any evidence of behaviour that motivated you to post this.

You are creating drama for it own sake.

If that is what you need, enjoy.

  • Do you think creating a community and leaving it empty will bring people to the community?

People create a community because they want it to have activity and it is something they are interested in.

but I block those people and even sometimes the community

Which is a perfectly fine response but if you don't want to see this type of content why not only view the communities you are subscribed to?

Then you will never see any of this?

  • I agree but a direct adaptation of the books would not make a good TV show.

The books are a series of vignettes spaced decades apart with no continuing characters and each is a separate short story. While they work in the written form, they would not on the screen.

  • No you can't.

Any craft that has enough mass for human travel and is accelerated to even 1% of c would need solar sails that are thousands of square Kms in area to have a hope of decelerating.

That still ends up at a 500+ year trip to Alpha Centauri.

And that is just more added weight you have to accelerate in the first place.

TLDR: the rocket equation is a merciless task master.
