  • I feel it is important to publicise refutations of extraordinary claims widely.

The media generally loves to publish the extraordinary claims. especially ALIENS!! but is silent when the results comeback as "Sorry, they were wrong."

  • I read once that Al Gore campaigned in the 1980s with climate change as one of the action points.

I was taught climate change in earth science in high school in 1982. The was no controversy. It was taught as an accepted fact and settled science, which it was.

It has been heart breaking to see basically the worst case predictions come true.

  • Cheers for the heads up.

beeper does look interesting but I am weary of sign up and we will tell you when you can join type apps.

And this rings a few alarm bells for me:

if you send a message from Beeper to a friend on WhatsApp, the message is encrypted on your Beeper client, sent to the Beeper web service, which decrypts and re-encrypts the message with WhatsApp's proprietary encryption protocol.

I would love for this to work but that alone has a host of issues around third party trust.

New European legislation is coming into effect in 2024 and will force iMessage and WhatsApp to expose an interoperable end-to-end-encrypted API. Our servers are located in Europe, and we will switch to this open interface as soon as it is ready.

Sadly, not being in the EU means I will likely pass on this but is sounds great for EU residents when the above is implemented.

  • Log in with your existing Apple ID username or create a new account to start sending and receiving blue bubbles.

So I need an apple ID to use this?

    Pass.

If you’re a Phone (2) user in one of the select countries where Nothing Chats is available, you can download the messaging app from the Google Play Store.

So it only works in a few countries?

    Pass.

And it only works on one OEM's phones?

    Massive Pass.

  • average life expectancy

    mean age of death?

To me mean = average, so the two statements are the same.

Are you talking about median age of death?

When child mortality was very high (pre- 20 century) that was definitely the case. I am not so sure that it is now. I feel that average life expectancy will be a lot closer to 50% survival rate (median age of death) than it was in the past.

  • The term radical (in a political context) has always implied “change at the root.”

The dictionary definition I supplied gave no indication of left or right.

Your unsourced assertion, which I assume you got from someone making a video sitting in their car, is what you want to word to mean rather than what it actually means.

Now forgetting word play, do you think attacking an elected official's family with a hammer is an acceptable political action in a democracy?

  • The saddest part of everything Salman Rushdie has gone through is that he is one of the best English novelists of the modern era but 90% of stories gloss over all his works except The Satanic Verses, which caused the problems.

My personal recommendations are Midnight's Children and The Moor's Last Sigh.

Check them out, they are great reads.

  • Radicalized

    (v) to make radical especially in politics

    radical actually has a meaning

    Radical (adj)

advocating extreme measures to retain or restore a political state of affairs

Yep, it has a definite meaning and that meaning definitely applies here as I think anyone would class attacking someone with a hammer as extreme measures.
