  • Tbh I was kinda sad they killed her off instead of trying to make her an actually useful AI assistant. Seemed like a missed opportunity since her Halo counterpart is an AI as well, and it would’ve been cool to maybe have an AR partner app that would have shown pre-Halo 4 version of her.

  • XCOM: Enemy Within. I haven’t beaten it in general (got really close on Normal), but I’ve been specifically trying to clear Classic since that’s the mode where the game is mostly fair for both the player and the AI; the AI literally stops pulling punches and the game stops skewing RNG in the player’s favor.

It’s the dragon I’ve been chasing for over a decade; I’ll squadwipe on a mission that fucks up my entire run, ragequit, and not touch it again for a year or three, then go “how come I never beat it?” and start the vicious cycle again. BUT GODDAMMIT, IT’S SO FUCKING FUN TO PLAY (except for Newfoundland, all my homies hate Newfoundland).

This is only vanilla btw, don’t even get me started on my Long War “attempts” (read: repeated wipes within the first couple of months).

EDIT: more gooder english and PTSD flashbacks of Newfoundland mission.

  • But I want to outrage at sensationalized headlines and tweets :( How can I do that if I actually read the articles?

  • Nah, if you want to use Reddit, go ahead and use Reddit.

Fediverse is slowly becoming Reddit 1.5 anyways - I actually went back to Reddit after not being able to find a few work- and hobby-related communities on the fediverse.

  • As perplexing as the thought of “blood and gore good, nudity bad” is, legally I can see why Microsoft would take the heavy-handed approach.

If the dude in the article were to, say, share those scenes with somebody under 18 (which iirc is illegal since you’re distributing pornographic material to a minor), it’s probably not crazy of a stretch to say that Microsoft is legally liable for that happening on their platform. Easier to just do a carpet ban all-around to avoid it in the first place.

  • Oh yeah - in fact, Democrats also do a lot of stuff the GOP does. However, I’ll support whatever party does see how batshit insane the idea of becoming a corpofascist state is, because unfortunately voting in the US has become “vote against what you don’t like” instead of “vote for what you want”.

In truth, I wouldn’t be surprised if the US does become a corpofascist state in our lifetimes - we tend to forget that Democrats are center-right while GOP is full-on right-wing, hence why Hillary was chosen instead of Bernie for the Democratic candidate.

  • Party pushes being American and “Make America Great Again” over helping the citizenry

Party shows support for a person who has shown to support an insurrection of the US Constitution and openly talks about being a dictator while also complimenting other dictators

Party advocates for a ton of tax cuts for the rich and businesses while putting the economic pressure on the middle- and poverty-class citizens

Party is ok with accepting money from corporate entities in order to influence politics in their favor, regardless of how it affects the citizenry

Party advocates for suppressing the voice of the citizens with some insane district drawing that clearly favors a specific type of citizen and disfavors a ton of others

Party is in favor for rolling back child labor laws and tries to get retirees back into the work force, and also openly supports controlling birthrates via state-wide abortion bans that citizens can’t contest

Yeah, I’d say whatever party does all of that is probably fascist - or at the very least, on its way to being fascist.

  • You stop seeding because you are selfish.

I stop seeding because I am selfish.

    We are the same.

  • Two dudes recently watched the Barbie movie and are beaching each other off.

  • I’m starting to wonder if we could even break this cycle. Nobody seems to give a shit, and if they do, whatever they’re doing seems to not be working.

For fuck’s sake, a surprisingly large amount of Americans want an insurrectionist, fascist, Russian-loving “president” that has openly said he will be dictator (but “only” for a day!). It would be one thing if it were a vocal minority just being really loud, but the fact that there’s an actual large amount of people who want a person like that makes me wonder if the US citizenry is broken.

  • Great! So what is it?

  • It almost feels like cheating, but Somewhere Only We Know by Keane always manages to get me, especially since it seems like the lyrics become more poignant the older I get.

Honorable shoutout goes to Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt.

  • Why tf would I ever buy Tyson when I could get a whole rotisserie chicken for $5 or 5-6lbs of chicken boobs breasts for $15-$20? They both would taste waaaaaaay better than the shit Tyson churns out.

  • As somebody who’s dual-booting Windows and Mint on an older laptop and saw battery life improvement in Linux… are you sure the battery isn’t just bad? I could use the laptop for hours before going to 50% on Mint while on Windows I could go maybe 2 hours before going to 50%.

EDIT: Should clarify, actually curious about the battery life on OP’s end and not trying to be a Linux snob. Wondering if maybe OP should look into a battery replacement if that’s a possibility since I know some batteries suck.

  • Fair enough - everybody’s tastes are different. Fwiw I didn’t really enjoy the X-Files that much when I watched it, but I have heard the same thing that it’s a really good show.

  • OP, are you sure you’re not conflating the X-Files being your favorite show with it being good? Because Breaking Bad exists and that came out after X-Files. Also is arguably better than the X-Files lol

  • Super cool at first, but slowly becoming more and more like Reddit.

Only a matter of time before it becomes a less moderated version of Reddit.

  • It’s because the USA’s corporate owners like to obfuscate shit like that. The economy is doing well if all you’re looking at is GDP, stock market, and how profitable companies are.

However, a quick look at the Consumer Price Index shows how fucked the economy is for the citizens - but you never hear about the US’s really bad CPI score and how inefficient most markets are in the US.

  • The original fat PS2 I got for Christmas 20-odd years ago. It still plays games perfectly fine if the discs aren’t too scratched up (RIP my bro’s copy of Marvel vs Capcom 1).
