  • they all pander for their button clickers with similar carnival barker catchphrases to gather their little micro-boosts to raise their Tuber Rank.

People do what helps them make a living. I don't like it any more than you do, but you seem to be attributing way too much baggage to something that's no different to a street vendor hawking their wares at passerby. Times change, but people's motivation stays the same.

  • In what way?

Idk something tells me being black or gay or a woman or an American or Vietnamese man from the ages 18-24 wouldn't be too hot in the 60s but what do I know, we only have entirely unfettered access to historical documents from the time.

  • I mean most people in adult spaces aren't really discussing YouTube and who they subscribe to lol. But it's a useful feature to tell the algorithm "hey, show me when this channel uploads a new video please"

I think you're really over thinking it in regards to the 'culture' most well-adjusted adults don't think about the people they subscribe to on YouTube as anything other than cool creators whose work they want to follow.

  • So many damn Linux memes and supremacy posting.

On a more real note though, a bunch of the smaller communities I was part of on reddit, and nearly every specific gaming sub I was in aren't here, or at least aren't anywhere near as active.

  • Hey, it could be worse, you could be a kid whose whole world is in the midst of melting down before they've even had a chance to realize what life could've been like if not for the shitty decisions of the preceeding generations.

  • Not to mention, legality doesn't need to be a question if the admins of Lemmy.world get drowned in legal fees before even having to appear in a court. The rich don't exist by our laws and idk why anybody expects differently at this point.

  • EA BFII released before TLJ (Nov 17, 2017 vs Dec 15, 2017). And the controversy for BFII happened before it's release, more than a month before anybody had the chance to see TLJ. On top of that, because of the extreme amounts of negative press, all paid loot boxes were removed from BFII within like a week of its release, and all future content would be entirely free. So while sometimes review bombing may be people clamoring about 'wokeness' or just ineffective, BFII is not the example to use as it's probably the singular hardest pivot in game direction in modern AAA due to player outcry.
