  • KDE is objectively the better DE from a technical standpoint (in my objective opinion) but sometimes GNOME just feels right in the moment. I have both installed and switch between them all the time

  • Nah, I really don't think anyone is naturally computer savvy. Computers are literally the furthest thing from nature in existence. Some children are given the freedom and/or encouragement to explore computers, and some aren't. Giving a child an iPhone or an iPad as their first computer is the opposite of this, btw.

Edit: For the record, nobody I know who uses a terminal on a daily basis used it in class for the first time.

  • dude, 15 minutes? I watched my friend take a dab for the first time and he was unresponsive for two fucking hours. He was standing upright staring at the horizon without moving an inch. He only spoke once, about an hour in, and he said "time is nothing"

  • At this point, if we were smart, we would recognize that this thing is going nowhere and leverage it to drive the renewables market. The planet will be sterile before any revolution happens. Capitalism is another thing that is going nowhere. But you can fold it in on itself to trick it into actually doing something good for a change.

Gotta play the hand you're dealt.

  • It's probably less than 0.1% of the population that's capable of any type of original thought and I hate to say this but they seem to be spread evenly across all ideologies

  • no one – not one man – is calling them out. They’re patting each other on the back.

being surprised by this makes no sense, it's like expecting people at a Hitler convention to call each other out for liking Hitler

edit: if you expect anything but the worst from users of reddit, discord, and 4chan, you're insane.

  • Another thing I think about sometimes is how games can be malicious too. The trend in PC gaming for a while now is "flavor of the month" where every couple months a huge breakout title comes out and everyone plays it for a few weeks.

The expectation from these games is that they run like shit despite being a fifth as graphically complex as a bigger budget game. What stops them from slipping a coin miner in for half a day at the peak of their popularity?

Schedule 1 for example. I love this game and I'm not accusing them of anything, just an example. Let's be honest. It runs at 100fps when it could run at 1000fps. Say the dev finally optimizes it, pushes the optimizations and a coin miner in a hotfix patch with no patch notes post on Steam. Six hours later the dev removes the coin miner and pushes that as a major patch with a patch notes release calling it the "optimization update" or something. We'd be none the wiser.

Don't take this as me saying not to support indie titles but it's a little weird that millions of people install untrusted closed source code from 1-3 devs all at the same time every couple months.

  • A couple years ago I was playing around with an RTL-SDR and I had it scanning a wide range for any voices. I found a police frequency and they were having a standoff in the park. A mother had a knife and her child with her, I assume it was some sort of hostage situation. They apprehended her, and when they transmitted her ID info, they scrambled the transmission. So I was able to learn about the situation but not who specifically was involved, and I agree with this approach honestly. It never made the news btw.

I'm not sure how it works exactly but I assume they have two transmit buttons on their handsets, regular voice and encrypted voice.

  • I feel like you're intentionally misunderstanding me at this point, or you only skimmed what I wrote. Nobody said do nothing. I said post memes when it's time to post memes and post politics when it's time to post politics. Either way I'm not interested in continuing this conversation if it's going to involve Reddit-level obstinance.
