  • Well careful now... Mike Johnson was ordained by God, almost a second Moses, and those rights to rule are not from government but the Almighty. And we all know Anger isn't from God but from the devil.

    /s (if it wasn't obvious)

Keep banning books and privatizing schools folks, this is the indoctrination we'll end up with.

  • You guys remember Death Panels, the anti-Obamacare cry that legislatures want to get between you and your doctor to decide who can get care?

Every Republican who jumped on that bandwagon needs to eat crow and realize they flipped like a bitch when it suited their anti-abortion argument.

  • While outside the scope of the article I disagree with the notion patents need to go away. If privately funded, developed, and created a patent incentivizes ingenuity and has it's place. That said, limits of some sort prevent monopolies/exploitation and are the other side of a healthy system. **If publicly funded in any way the people have a right to it.

I know Lemmy is very anti-corpo and I generally I am too. But for a personal inventor imagine spending years of your life on a project only to have your only way to seek compensation for that work taken away - unless you're a total saint you would never want to create again (or certainly wouldn't share it).

The counter point is that if it can save millions of people it certainly seems wrong to withhold it for personal gain, and so there must be a compromise somewhere or that'd make the person evil (which most corporations end up being).

  • I feel we just can't agree on this argument online, and it's likely because the line for tolerance differs on so many factors, history being a huge one.

I'm aware German laws exist to ban fascist symbols, likely as an ounce of prevention along the lines, "we won't repeat another Hitler".

It might take the US falling into a fascist state and being liberated to make us adopt such "drastic" measures as raids. Until then 1A has been routinely held up to protect hate speech so for now it's up to us as a society to make a conscious decision what we'll tolerate. We just have to be as vocal about it as the racists/fascists.

  • He referred to his opponents as vermin, and his campaign manager doubled down. So yes, there's some fear. The man mimics Hitler's phrasing and attempted a coup.

Your last statement is an ad hominem fallacy, not great for actual debates. Are you suggesting that it's cowardice to remove him from ballots? What's the brave tactic in this situation? Let the man attempt another coup using his bigoted dog whistles?

  • I think a lot of people miss the point, and the trainer here actually says it in so many words: it isn't supposed to be efficient, it's supposed to blow the minds of the customers (I.e. "magic").

Similarly, I'm often blown away by waiters that don't write my order down AND get my meal completely correct, the showmanship makes it a funner experience.

WH without this system is just very good drunk people food.

E: I worked at WH for a couple years, watching the cooks in action is just plain impressive. Especially when there's 10+ plates lined up, they're marking more, managing to not burn already cooking food, AND plating orders.

  • I imagine some "stray bullet" injuries/deaths are caused by firing into the air causing an arc. Don't mean to "actually" you but it likely isn't always a shot fired horizontally.

I agree with you by the way. And gun control could start would rigorous training requirements (like checking backstops, education on safety) -- it wouldn't have to be "they're taking our guns!".

  • You mean the part where they held a special election in August after writing rules to BAN special elections in August (unless they involved budget crises)? The supermajority 60% of the Aug Issue 1 would've tanked this if they had their way (or kept it from hitting the ballot with the 80~ county petition requirement).

THEN they had the gall to change the language on today's Issue 1 text.

I'm so proud right now, big win for a state that's had a lot of fails lately (i.e. literal train wrecks that got swept under the rug).

Also: how well do you all think the inclusion of Issue 2 here REALLY brought out the voters? I heard a lot of pot smokers got out of bed early today for it - had to add some extra push for Issue 1.
