  • Yeah they can get ugly there. It’s been a pissing contest for decades on just about every post. I do remember a time where people were just helpful and passionate about hardware hacking, but the web has an incredible amount of people on it now compared to how many were online when Hack A Day started 30-odd years ago

  • You want all this from someone you say is highly suicidal. You understand that you would be setting yourself up for failure, don’t you?

    If she’s not in a good place, then your relationship will suffer. You need to be realistic here.

  • I left when the API changes put third party apps out of business, so I don’t have firsthand experience with it. From what I’ve read here on Lemmy and elsewhere, they’ve just gone off the deep end with automated bans and refusing to properly consider appeals.

    One thing I saw that at least some subreddits were doing was to ban anyone using the name “Luigi” in a comment or post, even if they weren’t talking about Luigi Mangione.

    My guess is that they chased away all of the good moderators, and what is left is shitty, power-hungry mods and bad automation.

    There are communities here on Lemmy that continually talk about these issues with Reddit. Lots of the banned users are ending up here (and with that comes good and bad things).

  • Material shrinkage is another factor to consider, and there are a myriad of other reasons why there are more accurate ways to mass produce things.

    Even assuming a perfect print - no blobs, no zits, and, just for the sake of argument, let’s ignore the Z seam - I disagree that you can reliably get 0.1 mm precision off of a FDM machine in all directions. I’ve been able to get parts to fit each other to within 0.3 mm reliably in the best conditions on a properly-calibrated Prusa MK3S+

    But that’s just my experience.

    3D printing isn’t meant for production-level accuracy. It’s a prototyping technology that is good enough for a lot of different applications, but not when sub-millimeter precision is necessary.

    Can you make something that works? Of course! Will it work as reliably as something made using better processes? Usually not.
