Not actually sure this is banal? The story is a staffing shortage of air traffic controllers and several near misses due to them being exhausted. Just because there hasn't been a problem yet doesn't mean there isn't a problem at all.

Yes, but the layperson's perspective doesn't really matter here and it's worth reading the NYT piece. The underlying issue is that air traffic controllers are overworked and making mistakes due to staffing shortages and mandatory overtime while working a mentally taxing job. There are legitimate concerns that if this isn't addressed, we could see actual collisions and casualties.

Right, it's not so much that the words are used incorrectly so much as it is that their use is inappropriate in this context.

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired in 2004. In the civilian context, an assault weapon is semiautomatic. Fully automatic weapons are, to put it lightly, uncommon among civilians so assault weapon refers to a variety of styles of semiautomatic firearm.

You have to just accept the kind of campy look to the show, as well as some of the more questionable acting and dialogue choices. Once you just accept that this will be the presentation, you can focus on the story, which is very insightful and complex. At its heart it's a political drama about American intervention in the Arab-Israeli conflict (never explicitly stated, but it's pretty evident almost immediately), with a shadowy outside threat, presented through a sci-fi lens. Then it adds way more mysticism and fantasy elements as the series progresses. It's a fantastic exploration of human nature, I strongly recommend it.

It left HBO before I could finish the last season. I just got a Tubi account so I can close it out.

It's supposed to imply resources for the humans in the company as opposed to corporate resources.
