Ah, ok yeah. That's probably it. Yiffit even has a sticky saying they did this but it read like they just force logged everyone out. Now I understand what they really meant.

  • Couldn't any features they add be copied by other instances?

  • Gold is a better conductor than copper and gold also does not corrode. So they actually are better cables, since the thing the cable does is made significantly easier and less prone to failure when the wires and connectors are gold and not copper or some other metal that doesn't conduct electricity as well.

  • I feel like this whole thing is simply just a clarification on what was already the case. Like, a baker can't just refuse a gay person for being gay. But they could refuse to make that gay person a huge dick shaped cake because, presumably, they would also refuse to make a huge dick shaped cake for a straight woman as well. The reason the customer wants the dick cake is irrelevant; merely that the cake is a dick.

  • I keep switching between Liftoff and Connect because they both have some issues that are resolved in the other.

Connect seems to work better with showing all federated content than Liftoff, but Liftoff allows multiple instances to be logged in at once. Connect has notifications, and Liftoff does not. Liftoff has more user-centered features like actual profile pages that show a background image, bio, and avatar; connect does not.

Neither one have any tools for moderation, though. I am now a mod for Humor (BTW, come post! Let's make it better than /r/funny ever was!) and I've only been able to do actual mod things on the website itself, which is tedious to do on mobile.

  • I have yet to try it but I've seen what's on offer around here and it just looks like bland soup. I mean, the broth is clear like straight water. That's not good pho is it?

  • I was a comment fiend on Reddit, and now I shall be one on Lemmy. And it's so much easier to be king of the comments when the comments are mostly empty. 😏

  • To be fair, I had some of those complaints with the instances initially being linked. It clicked when RIF linked to Lemmy.World in its final update message. It didn't have dumbass hoops to go through, just a straight forward email, username, password, you're in system like the first few things I was seeing. That and many people were over explaining it and just confusing the hell out of people.
