The issue for the commenter you replied to is that they think that laying the blame for a specific incident at the personal responsibility of the people directly involved somehow means that the diffuse responsibility of wider society in creating conditions wherein those incidents are guaranteed to regularly occur is somehow no-longer relevant.

All that seems to matter in their assessment is who gets the finger pointed at them when the problem happens, not, why does the problem happen and what can we do to avoid it?

The driver can be personally responsible for their own failures without that alleviating the responsibility of good decision making by those who are responsible for ensuring people are able to live their lives safely.

It's so much safer to have an accident in a modern car than one from even just a few decades ago. There's no amount of better-than-what-we-have levels of driver awareness that can make up that gap.

Shame I missed this, I would have liked to contribute. Hopefully I'll see the report once it's posted.

I love the modern XCOM games, I love card games, I love games where the story follows a new superhero in an established superhero universe, I love XMen.

Yet.

Whilst I obviously was so excited for Marvel's Midnight Son's I was planning ahead to ask for cash to buy it full price for a birthday or something rather (to both play right away and support games that heavily target my tastes) rather than just wait for a deep sale a few years later like I normally would, all the buy this version and add on bits ala carte or buy this version that has some things but not all things but who know which is which or buy this super version that has the entire game or buy this hyper-mega version that has all of that and also stuff that's not actually part of the game or buy a version that has the stuff that isn't part of the game and most of the game... bullshit, just completely killed any interest I had in it.

I might pick it up and play it one day when it's literally a few quid but quite possibly not at this point.

Just sell me the thing. Don't complicate it. If I need to spend ages figuring out exactly which parts of a game I haven't even played yet I do and don't care about so I can try to see how close to a normal price I can pay and still get all the actual game, I'd rather just use that time to go play a game that wasn't designed by MBE's.

I'm not sure I'm willing to force my brain into considering the relative shadiness of different arguments for child pornography. It is a worrying stance, splitting hairs over whether he could have said something worse or not seems like an unproductive discussion.

I think it's possible to recognise that valid concerns are hijacked for other purposes without needing to take a stance against the concerns themselves though.

IE I think child porn is a bad thing and we should work as a society to address it in a multi-faceted way. I also think that using that as a way to gain legal capabilities to infringe on people's rights in a way that is not actually related to the prevention of child porn is also a bad thing. Those aren't mutually exclusive ideas. Though I did see the claim that he was 16 at the time he wrote it, so it's possible he worked that out later?

Such a weird stance to take and to make a point of wedging in there. I thought perhaps on reading I'd find he's being misinterpreted or taken out of context but he's very explicitly like "child porn isn't an issue and we should do nothing about it." Quite a worrying position for him to take.

Then why don't you stop wasting your precious time here and spend it demanding those taxes go towards paying for changes that allow you to earn a living, and spend time with your family without having to make dangerously long drives on a regular basis?

we often combine grabbing food or taking a break from driving with stopping a charger. It does take a bit more planning but we have a lot more control over our time in these situations. In practice, it does not feel like much of an imposition.

While you might decide not to, you ought to be planning those same stops irrespective of fuel or range. Even if you have a magic sci-fi car with it's own micro cold fusion generator good for a 1000 years, you should still be planning the exact same rest stops for your driver.

on the remaining you wouldn’t mind a coffee break to stretch your legs once in a while. Yes that even applies to travelling salesmen and the like: Go stretch your legs and run some numbers while you charge (but the X days out of Y will look different).

Forget "wouldn't mind", you (one) absolutely owe it to other road users to take those breaks. It just isn't safe to drive continuesly for hours and hours without them. You aren't magically the exception, you are a human being like everyone else and you are not a safe driver after hours of unbroken driving. Without exception (and that does include professional drivers who sadly are contractually required to do so.)

Like... Get the fuck off my roads you dangerous dickheads. If you drive an electric cross country you'll be charging it for as long as and as regularly as the minimum amount of breaks you must take in order to drive safely. Just fucking do it even if you're in a fossil fuel car that technically could let you avoid taking those breaks. Why are people like this‽

People are confusing (probably due to intentional prompting by those trolls trying to have bystanders fight their battles for them) the very real problem on Reddit that if you chase karma there were benefits to be had in terms of credibility and reach of your messaging and so whatever entities might benefit from such would tend to fill the space over in Reddit with content like that. Realistically that doesn't change the most common content much as it really comes down to the sort of thing people will upvote but it did make it a bit worse. That's being confused with some notion that somehow anyone who wasn't chasing karma was entirely ignored. That just isn't true. You might not be the absolute center of attention unless you've either post or said something especially worthwhile but so what?
