Accidents are often the best ways to discover cooking techniques. I remember hearing about a story of a medieval cook who feel asleep cooking his lord's meat over an open fire. At first he thought his lord would have him whipped or beheaded... but actually enjoyed the roast so much he gave him his own farm!
Dude... fuck me that was something else. And yeah, sometimes we need to let loose and tell what the hell happened in as much detail as possible to get closure.
I have been wanting to degoogle for a while and it has been a slow process. But youtube has been a big one for me. In large part because, ironically, I cannot get freetube to work with a VPN. Peertube, sounds better.
No it is not. Port and starboard are only left and right if you are facing the bow. If you are facing the stern they are reversed (from your perspective). The reason why is to make sure there are unambiguous terms for turning a ship in order to navigate and avoid collisions.
Btw the same rule applies to airplanes. If you are flying and have another airplane flying towards you both pilots must turn starboard to avoid a crash.
Futurama was wicked funny how they introduced that. It seemed like it was gonna suck big time for fry to live in a closet sized 'apartment' but that 'apartment' had a closet that was bigger than most big ass apartments!
Pinball is life. Forrest Gump got it wrong. Life is not like a box of chocolates. It is like a pinball game. You're bouncing around like crazy and then suddenly it all ends when you go down the drain...
You know, before Trump and the rise of neo-nazism into the mainstream I used to be huge into interwar media (early talkies, silent films, radio, etc) and one thing I found was a sci-fi radio show (I am not sure if it was Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon or something else) that seemed to treat the very concept of making into space in the 20th century as an impossible feat.
But a little over 20 years after that broadcast Sputnik happened. So many listeners and writers of the time absolutely were eating their own words afterward.
I remember a NASA engineer saying that if NASA had half the failures that SpaceX has had in its early days they would have been disbanded as an organization and their funding pulled completely.
Yet this private org somehow gets bailed out again and again and again and again and again all while not only wasting massive tax payer money, but also causing a hell of a lot of waste. SpaceX is the waste fraud and abuse that should be trashed, not the national park service.
This is true. We might think that science and tech advanced slowly and steadily, and while that is technically true in some sense, as a general rule science advanced in exponential levels. Like the 2nd industrial revolution of the late 19th century saw such a massive explosion in tech that it created a change that could only be compared to the agricultural revolution.
And let's not get started on the 20th century. Going from first heavier than air flight to landing on the moon in 66 years? Yeah that cannot be overstated.
