  • Patience is the key - I hate Denuvo, you (probably) hate Denuvo, and most devs hate Denuvo... once the magic first week or two are done, the new trend seems to be devs patching out Denuvo once their release sales have peaked so fingers crossed this will continue.

A cheaper, patched, DRM-less game a few months behind release. Winner.

  • I don't miss the tool, I miss the general vibe and feeling of the late 90s or early 2000s.

CD's for everything, over engineered autorun splash screens, the seeking of mechanical harddrive heads when computing a route, the sense of adventure, and the general positive outlook that consumer tech is working for us, not because of us.

    I miss those days.

  • I miss the days of Microsoft AutoRoute. No internet connection needed - but you were stuck with the map and routes present in the release version that was on the CD.

    Printing was optional and encouraged!

  • That's not the problematic metric though. It's the 70-80% (link) install base of the Windows OS on desktop computers that Edge is installed with that's the basis of the anti-competitive allegation.

The fact that it still only takes 5% of the browser usage is more of a happy accident.

  • Unless it's the initial outreach team or on-premises staff, sales would be one of the few roles totally suited to remote working.

Some of the more creative or collaborative roles I can see the argument for hybrid working - even if it's just one day a week or month in the office - but sales, customer service, or first line support seems to be the last area you'd impose a return to work mandate on.

That said, I haven't got extortionate office rents to justify 😂

  • Tough one. As has already been mentioned, there has to be a clear line where the kids are involved - that is to say, are you going to be there for them or not?

If it's the latter, that's not an issue. Declaring that from the outset isn't a drama - single parents aren't suddenly robots and enjoy the affection, sex, and friendship too. There's no expectation beyond that and a few hot dates, and if it does start to cross red lines then there's a clear reason to start nosediving it into the sea.

I think leading a parent on though to the point where you're introduced to the kids and become a part of their life, and then drop the bombshell that you're after the casual or physical side of things means your actions have caught more than just the pair of you in the blast, and that just sucks.

Honesty isn't hard, and most of the time it's pretty hot!

e for context: I use "you" in the assumption that you're looking to date a parent - reframe it to your own view :)

  • I mean, it's not really a "in office" v "remote working" debate - people will slack off and make themselves look busy regardless of where they are. That's caused by a case-specific mix of motivation, discipline, or other factors. That's a line management issue rather than a work location issue - WfH just gets scapegoated for that.

Ultimately it will be the money starting to talk - if the accountants start complaining about expensive office space not being used to its maximum, then they'll start instructing folk back to the office. It's a shit reason but unless your contract specifically says remote, it'll be the balance sheet making the decision for you (edit: unless it really doesn't work for you and you go nuclear with the "resign" button of course)

  • Not London, but UK: our nearest city has introduced an ULEZ and it has had a positive impact on me.

I'm more than happy to drive to the nearest town and use the park and ride setup. It's ever so slightly inconvenient to not be able to leave on your own terms, but I enjoy the the walking and exploring so if I've got twenty minutes to burn until the next bus or train then I rather enjoy poking my head down a side street or getting a coffee somewhere new.

ULEZ's are fantastic. Are they congruent with the conveniences of modern life? Absolutely not. Are they a sensible price to pay to fuck yank tanks off the city streets? Abso-fucking-lutely.

As always, I'm open to dissenting opinions :)

  • The laugh is, each and every one of them can actually mean "mate what a fantastic idea, let's absolutely smash this" to the middle ground "k" all the way through to "this is the worst fucking idea I've ever heard, but no dramas we can sort that on the way".

The end result will be the same.

  • I don't get it. I mean I get it because it's Ninty, but I don't get why now?

Has there been something in a major new feature update that has finally tipped the scales into clearly taking the piss, or have the legal team at Big N finally seen their erections subside after the game's launch and only now can move enough to do something about it?

  • change the fact

    There's your failing.

I'm not saying he did or did not see whatever supposed corruption you're saying is going on.

However, you're trotting out the usual ACAB trope when you have the same level of knowledge as anyone else - that is to say, fuck all. There's little to support your assertion of a "fact" here at all.

I'm not arsed one way or another whether you like cops or not, but at least make your arguments make sense.
