  • Probably not but at least with caffeine there's a societal joke about the horror of children on a caffeine high that keeps the teachers from letting the kids try the first one for free.

If we want to address that all the way though, moving the soda bottles into the nurse's office to be used exclusively for severe headache treatment would be a good start.

  • IIRC it's because it was a breed originally cultivated by the Roma.

I think there's a push among some folks to get a name change on the books, not even to a name based on Roma, it was something else entirely I think related to the moustache

  • I've been saying for a while now that the singularity isn't going to be based in an AGI, ot will be minimizing quantum computing not just to a commercial scale, but to an implantable scale, and creating a neural "third hemisphere" implant which allows the user to basically have all the capabilities that human thought excels at over machines calculation, as well as all the capabilities of the reverse.

If we hit that point before inequality is addressed, it will lead to the classes literally becoming different species from each other, an overlord owning class that has financial access to such expanded mental capacity, and the peasant working classes that are financially shut out of the expanded career potential the implants would provide.

Not to mention the terroristic horror that could come from the implant not being solidly air gapped from the internet. Might be cool to perfectly calculate an optimal frisby toss, but it'll be less cool if someone changed the trajectory you're aiming along to turn the thing into a murder weapon by hitting a rando at just the right angle.

  • Funny thing is that there'd be enough diamonds that even the market crash of hauling a shitload of them back to earth wouldn't stop you from making absolute bank off selling them.

Probably mostly to scientists and specialist mining companies but hey money's money.

  • it stinks

  • Yeah calling programs that don't actually demonstrate intelligence AI is probably one of the most public confusing things the tech bros have done.

It's not Skynet or HAL or AM, it's a very very fancy copy paste protocol, and the owning class is using it to crush independent markets.

  • You'd be shocked how crazy it actually is that human arms work the way they do.

Primate arm structure is what gives us the ability to throw with predictable accuracy and it's something that just does not exist anywhere else in the animal kingdom.

It's so exclusive that Goji Center used it as a part of their "improved" Indominus Rex to give it primitive tool use and also to add a bit of very disturbing world building about what exactly is in that thing's genetic components.

The point here is that it is down to a very unique musculoskeletal pattern of our "front legs" that we can throw good, and make use of all that training to possibly throw gooder, and that other animals being able to do the same at the same level as the primate family would have made this planet exponentially more dangerous than it already is.

Imagine a mountain lion being able to chuck a spear. That shit would make living in the Rockies almost dangerous enough to justify how crazy half the people that come out of there are!

  • Blocking you stops you from hearing from them, not them from being able to see you.

Otherwise it'd be used as a debate winner by stopping people from being able to respond for others to see.

Basically it's predicated on the idea that if you can't see it happening, then it doesn't count as continued harassment and bullying.

  • I think you can stop most of them from sending data if you don't use an alexa style hub device to connect it.

My J9+ didn't have any prompts asking for data that I couldn't just say no to, and aside from being a bit derpy around low hanging bedsheets it works just fine.

  • I'm old enough that some of the PC games I grew up playing came on a CD.

In fact, I'm old enough to remember before when CD became a tag for cross dressing on Pornhub!

"You youngins think you're pro gamers‽ I've forgotten more PC games than y'all have put your hands on!"
