Even if this was 'only' an issue for the people that make all our food its an important issue and pesticide drift is a thing. so its also an issue for the people that live near where our food is made

as an “adult” is just a mental construct that was embedded into most people at a young age

... and kids can step up to responsibilities way earlier than we prefer to admit. They might not be as good at it as somebody more developed but they can do it.

The extremes always look silly. Take for example the little dick energy of a big lifted pickup with tiny wheels blowing coal.

Where the fuckcars folks are correct is that many many car drivers claim they NEED some monstrously fast, big, powerful, etc vehicle and to drive too fast, take up lots of room, crush people, look “cool” etc to go a few miles to buy some milk.

Any rural town with a speed limit near a school knows that when people get into their cars a lot of excuses for why they need a car become armor for why they need to be allowed to drive like dicks.

I don’t think we’d see fuckcars have nearly the staying power if those people were driving sensible vehicles at sensible speeds and didn’t claim priority over every piece of road.

I guess if your license could be transferred to your new vehicle this would kinda make sense —- although frankly I’d expect a recurring revenue subscription model instead. Basically this feels like they’ve just been throwing shit at the wall while failing to deliver the feature.

I think you underestimate his how many would believe. I don’t think MAGA types care about facts or health related statistics — all of which are signs of the liberal elite. Given the chance I think they’d make a martyr out of him just for spite.

I don’t know that there is a best case for “everybody” at this point.

If Trump is blocked from running we will be hearing from his cult for the rest of time - and they will turn around and try to do this to others as payback (like they are doing with impeachment).

If Trump dies of a heart attack he becomes a martyr.

I think the best case is that he looses the primary. This might keep the Rs together as a party (sigh) but at least it will be their choice and maybe we can all move forward from there.

If Trump looses on the general we have another round of sore losers whining and trying to destroy democracy some more. Regardless of how that fight goes every day of it diminishes the country and boost in intensity would be bad.

If he wins the general election the country is SO very fucked — welcome to your new authoritarian apartheid anti-freedom etc state. At least that is their stated goal and it’s gonna be a horrible country damaging battle.

All of this is Rs and Trumps (MAGAs) fault. And they’re continuing to take the initiatives. I don’t have a broad strategy in mind so I’m ok with fighting them at each of these levels.

When I see, and feel immediately support, for these I remind myself that I’m a relatively well off tech guy that works remote. My largest use of fuel for travel is for vacation / fun and cost of food and heat and etc is of course a large line item but I really could deal with a large increase. I’m very fortunate.

But what happens to everybody else when this happens. How do we make this form of transition without seriously impacting a LOT of people. And yes, I intellectually know that impact will happen from climate change. But people direct anger at people for individual policies and not, as much, because there was a big storm, or a doubt, or other “natural” event.

So how can these aggressive ideas really get going unless paired with serious societal changes like UBI and/or (big) subsidies for EVs and/or mandated charging stations and/or… ?

I’m saying they are not acting according to the caricature of a “conservative” they hold out to get votes. And the video explains that this has been a core feature of “conservative” for a while and provides a definition of what it really is.

I’m worried about it AND I’m worried of the framing that holding one branch is at all enough. Look what Rs have done in states where they want to block governors.

They really don’t care about anybody but their own tribe. They are not “conservatives” and have openly make constitution defying motions beyond the coup attempt.

I think I believe them about this. All of them have been wildly wealthy their entire life. Super duper wealthy and cavalier about how they experiment with spending it (what more careful people might call “business ventures”). I figure their father leads by example.

I think they really might spend their time do stupid shit, signing papers people that hang around them give them to sign, look for media opportunities and basically ENJOY being fucking stupid wealthy. It’s possible they’ve been cosplaying at being successful business people.

If thats the case then why would they remember how things went down? How big a penthouse is? Or anything. I think they’re fucked because Trump cares about his actual wealth and has probably seen it go down over his lifetime way more than he wants. That core fear is might be why all the bluster and cons and fraud?

And what happens to the old engine? Does it get refurbished somewhere slow&cheap and become a crate motor for step 2 a few months down the line? Or thrown out?

Yeah. This is the real issue here.

Sex work should be legal and the morality discussion here is about people lying to their spouses and if anybody is being forced into sex work… all interesting topics.

But anybody implicated in this situation needs all security clearances and access dropped because they are high risk morons.

I’d argue we haven’t “recovered” from those at all. Racism of still very much a factor in our politics and culture and, sadly, indigenous people are a small enough group that we kinda ignore the embarrassment without really doing anything about it beyond it contributing to relative small racism and legal battles.

I don’t know that the GOP would dump him. I think they’ll do whatever their base does and if that means doubling down on a convict then there we go…

For keeping my mind off “stuff” I do the headphones and constant audio. Both books and podcasts.

It’s an escape but I also feel like all the problems are still there — and at some point I still need to deal with them. Thus I listen to a lot of books because I’ll need to starts a new one right away.

Interesting listening to a good book again is great when I’m stressed. It keeps me from thinking random bad thoughts but, since I know the story, it still lets me relax or let my thoughts wander a bit.

LLMs are just regurgitating shit AND that’s most of what we do all day too.

(Speaking from a job as an innovator in a high tech field. Most of us are just doing engineering w/ concepts invented elsewhere. )
