Nothing significant this week, afraid my mindset just isn't ideal for gaming right now.
But I've been re-playing a bit Etrian Odyssey III, had forgotten how great this game is. Unlikely to play it through to the end, but it's been a good time sink to help deal with stress/anxiety.
I'd also like to mention that I absolutely love the new super-smug portrait they added for the Princess/Sovereign class in the Switch version.

Rough translation:
The Sistema Interligado Nacional ("Interconnected National System") registered record energy consumption this wednesday (7/2). At 14h15, the total load was of 101.860 megawatt (MW), with 92,4% provided by renewable sources, in particular hydroeletric plants, wind plants, solar plants plus micro and mini distributed generation, according to data from the Operator Nacional do Sistema Elétrico ("National Electric System Operator") (ONS).
So if I'm understanding correcty this was peak generation.
If you like indie games, and if you enjoy puzzles and story, have you ever tried Ib? It’s a short indie psychological horror game that is all puzzles (no fighting), but really interesting.
Don't think I've heard of that game before, will take a look.
While it shares some of the design issues I mentioned with Minoria, it does offer an Easy mode and more combat options like ranged attacks which make it more enjoyable experience overall. The powerups and overall exploration is more fun too IMO.
Loved it. I'm not usually a fan of monster capture games, only managed to finish one Pokemon game (Alpha Sapphire) and even then I only did the bare mimum to see the ending because I was getting really bored.
This game however got me completely addicted, played it non-stop for 5 days to see the ending, and keep coming back for short play sections hunting Rogue Fusions or trying to complete the bestiary.
Speaking of sales, I picked a couple of things that were on sale, and one of them was the Cassette Beasts DLC.
Now, overall this was a fun side-story, but it's way too short. While $6 for a ~2 hours of entertainment wasn't the worst purchase I've made, I was definitely expecting a bit more of content from this one.
Another one I picked up on sale, a Metroidvania from the same developers of Momodora. Overall it's not a bad game, but it's incredibly frustrating at times.
The damage numbers are crazy high in this game. Random mobs often hit you for 30-50% of your life bar, and some boss attacks can kill you from anything less than full health. Feels like this game was designed for people who love mastering boss patterns so they can beat them without taking a hit, which unfortunately is not something I enjoy.
At least it looks like I'm on the final battle, so it should be done soon.
While I did more-or-less remember what was going on in the story before I paused this game, it was also fairly early in the story so I decided to start over. Almost done catching up to where I was before.
If you ask me why I'd have a hard time explaining, but this is a game that somehow "clicked" with me and I enjoyed it way too much. Played it non-stop on the Vita, then did the same when they first released the eX+ version on the PS4.
For those unfamiliar, it's B-Team RPG from Falcom that mixes Ys-like gameplay with a story taking place on the current world, heavy on anime clichés and with some clear inspiration from Persona.
Oh, yeah, not exactly a surprise with this developer, but the music is great.
I understand it takes place in the same universe as Fate and Tsukihime, but is otherwise a completely self-contained story.
Since I'm still early on the game I can't confirm this, but so far I had no issues following it and I know almost nothing about Fate - this game is my first foray into this universe.
I was thinking that VNs were more like “walking simulators,” where most of the action that takes place is pretty scripted but you explore the world and the story being presented by the devs.
Understandable, there's a thin line between all the story-driven subgenres like VNs, "walking simulators" and point-and-click adventures. I just tend to group them together as well.
Generally we use the term VN for games where the ratio of reading vs interaction leans heavily towards the "reading" side. There's even a type of VN called "Kinetic Novel" that has no interaction at all, it's essentially a book with added visuals, sound and voices.
I’m not a big fan of anime as an art form or storytelling style, but I’m going to be looking into these titles.
Since VNs are mainly a Japanese media this makes recommendations a bit trickier, but from this list I'd say you may want to look into "The House in Fata Morgana". Fairly dark and mature with minimal-to-none anime tropes.
Both the main game and the prequel story also have a very interesting gothic-inspired artstyle, but sadly the bundled sequel goes back to a more generic anime artstyle.
Since you're playing Mario Wonder one obvious recommendation would be Mario Odyssey, IMO the best 3D platformer ever made.
As for more recommendations, what genres/styles you like?
