I've used plex and emby, both are good but plex is easier to setup and share, and has apps everywhere. Emby is a close second, but jellyfin isnt there yet imo, with apps and availability of those apps on everything.
Streaming has gone up in price, and ads are sure to come as many streaming services are already complaining about financial strain, but for now it's still ad free and cheaper than cable in my country, by a long shot. Even if I pay for 3 streaming services.
I honestly hope that some of them go under, and have to revert to renting IP to Netflix again.
They do, but the costs to store all of that high resolution video is enormous. Especially since it must be replicated to local repository for quicker access as popularity raises and removed when popularity falls on videos. The amount of content stored and served is significantly more than Netflix houses. That being said, ads are getting way too intrusive.
