  • The radiation levels in the two hospitalised men were at or above 4 becquerels per square centimetre, the threshold which is considered safe.

    Honestly. This is journalistic malpractice.

A Becquerel (should be capitalized) is 1 decay per second. That isn't really even detectable above background, and radiation is really, really easy to detect in minute quantities.

I have spilled vastly more than that on myself and didn't even bother telling anyone.

A simple nuclear medicine scan uses something like 500 MBq.

This is at the level of rubbing yourself with a banana.

  • That's weirdly 180 degrees opposite of my experience.

Are you sure you're being 100% honest? Where do you live? There are ads for these at my grocery store. Not to mention the doctors office, and they still ask you to wear masks.

Of course, wearing masks is what we should do if we suspect we're sick. It's the sick/well kid's waiting room at the pediatrician.

  • There should be no need to mention these limitations. They sold be obvious to people using them, and of course there are academic discussions of the limitations of every model. I think they're just not being presented to you because they're well known.

Anyone who uses models should know that all models are wrong, but some models are useful.

  • I'm really surprised that this is the top post here.

It's not just a noun and a day of the week. It's a noun and a day of the week used to formally sell tacos.

This is Taco Bell using its size and wealth to take something from smaller players so that it could make money with it.

And the smallest players have always had absolutely nothing to worry about. Part of trademark law is that you must defend it. That can be just a letter.

  • That's always been a pretty misleading interpretation of the experiment.

The experiment is great. It's good to teach kids about acids and bases and this basic chemistry.

It's just that the same thing happens if you put a dead tooth in any acid, including the ones that are required for you to live, like vitamin c, and the ones that people drink because they think it's healthy, like vinegar.

  • He just wants his name in lights. It's a personality disorder.

He doesn't want to do anything. He never has had to.

It's not talked about how just so seriously mentally ill trump is. The Goldwater rule is probably for the best, but trump is, well, just look into the DSM. Way worse than Goldwater. The wiki captures it as well.

  • There's something wrong with the way your soup was prepared.

Diced carrots, onion, celery. Saute in butter until ready. Add rinsed split peas, a few bay leaves, salt and pepper. Ham and a ham bone really make this, but make sure there's not too much ham. That means too much salt. Put those in and cover with (ideally home made, no salt) stock. Cook until done. Remove bone, return meat and cartilage to soup.

So much fiber, so tasty. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions (I really, really despise green beans), but some opinions are less good than others.

There's nothing that can possibly be bad in that.
