  • Harry Potter is rather controversial in left wing circles nowadays due to the author being a major terf, and lemmy is definitely a left wing site. That's likely where the downvotes are coming from.

For what it's worth upvotes and downvotes don't appear consistently across instances. On the instance I'm on your HP post has 8 upvotes.

  • Bullshit. Russia is invading Ukraine, there is ZERO justification for that, NONE. If they want to keep Ukrainian children safe, they need to stop invading their country, not kidnap them from their families and forcefully immigrate them to Russia.

Russia can stop invading Ukraine any time they want. Ukrainians will never stop trying to defend their country. Russia, and Putin specifically, is the one at fault for every single life lost in this war. The fucking gall you have to victim blame Ukraine when they are literally fighting a defensive war against an invader is insane.

  • to frigging hotels and summer camps

In Russia. Believe whatever propaganda you want, no matter how you spin it, no matter how well treated the children actually are, it's still a war crime, it's still stealing children. The warzone only exists in the first place because of Putins invasion, and it could end tomorrow if he wanted.

  • Alright, fine. Turn the pressure up on Biden hoping he'll shift positions before the election. Cool.

The thing is, even if he doesn't shift, he's still the best option. At the moment, Biden is sympathetic to a fascist foreign government, but he's not trying to institute fascism in the US. Trump IS an outright fascist, and literally tried to overthrow the government. Biden is bad, but Trump is far worse, and unfortunately because of the way our election system works, any vote that isn't for Biden is equivalent to a vote for Trump, including not voting at all.

It's simple math. Ex: Biden has 5 votes, Trump has 6 votes, and 15 people didn't vote at all. Of those 15, 4 are Republicans against Trump, 7 are leftists that think Biden is too right wing, and 4 are genuine fence sitters. The fence sitters split evenly, so 7 votes for Biden and 8 for Trump, the other 11 stay home. So in total you have 14 people who ostensibly are more left wing and 12 more right wing, so a left wing majority... but Trump the actual fascist right wing candidate wins.

You can argue all you want that Biden isn't good enough for you, but the truth is Trump isn't bad enough for you. If he was, you'd be willing to make compromises to prevent him regaining power.

  • What the fuck is with this trend of releasing a great product and then 2-3 generations later nerfing the shit out of the memory bandwidth? Nvidia, Intel, I think AMD, and now Apple are all guilty of this recently.

  • It bothers me it's so hard to find one that doesn't include it, but it doesn't feel like it's bloating the price to me, if that's what you mean. Besides the insistence on the smart shit, TV's have constantly been getting better, bigger, and yet still cheaper.

It's unfortunate, but if anything the smart features are part of why they're staying so cheap. The TV costs the same to make no matter what, but when every company under the sun is paying a fee to have their app baked into the tv, you don't have to charge the end-user as much to make the same profit. Not to mention the treasure trove of data you can collect(and sell) from the ones who connect it to the internet.
