  • If you have the ps5 director update, they added really good haptic feedback to the game. And there was an Lengend update that add some more stuff(like NG+ and extra perks) and Legend mode to play. The director's cut content is also quite nice(entire extra smaller island), some puzzles are pretty nice change of pace, you can learn a lot more about the back story of MC.

  • There are time you are simply lost in that vast amount sea of information cause all the current wiki(from EA) about some stuff aren't really accurate. In my short EA and new play through, there is quite a bit difference

And I just found out yesterday you can quick save mid conversation.(either for rerolls or trying to get more approval from your party members.)

  • With 70+ hours in EA I am fairly certain it's really D&D. Just watch out for some line of sight stuff cause you might accidentally ignore that "path blocked" message and then fire you spell/projectile into blocked geo.

  • Depending which country you lived in, there is legal consequence for getting stuff from unauthorized source, there are a couple ways to work around your data cap.

    Legally:

    1. get a external USB3 SSD portable
    2. download using internet not capped, ie. your friend or library, mall, etc(remember to limit the data rate so you blend into ambient youtube/streaming traffic) Referencen: Scrolldown for a chart and use 720p/1080p as your rate limit
    3. hook up back to your PC and move the game to different local SSD folder.

Shady, really not recommended because of point 3:

    1. look up your local law regarding P2P like torrent AND VPN. (well, not every country consider VPN legal.)
    2. Make sure you know how internet works, protect yourself/identity. Pick a good VPN provider, make sure they have their own or use good privacy policy DNS, pick a good torrent client that supports magnet link and encryption and choose "forced" option. (means you don't download/upload to client that have encryption turned off. ) And set you seeding cap, (I don't blame you if you choose to not seed cause data cap is real.)
    3. Last but not least, pirated game, like any pirated softwares, are exposing you to malware/virus/randomware, etc. They can hide in any possible files you downloaded cause you don't know what else they touched this entire thing to work. So sandbox your environment or playing on low overhead VMs might be necessary.

And, when you can, move somewhere that have good ISP that have no data cap.

  • yeah, any commander(whatever higher up role has the authority to issue such order) that thinks it's okay and then leads to mass infection like US Navy would lost their job and if in active war probably military court trials. Imaging losing combat capability during your mission cause you want to accommodate people that don't want to get vaccinated.

  • cause in the end it's all statistics and math, human are full of mistakes(intentional or not), living language evolve over time(even the grammar), so whatever we are building "now" is a contemporary "good enough" representation.

  • It's really similar to traditional DnD RPG but with some extra quality of life built.

    • you no longer needs to press stat roll for hours to get the stat you want. It's a bit more modernized but use the 5e rules(I am not familiar, just read it from others' comment)
    • the opening(I am about 4~5 hours in early access content wise) and think the pace is actually quite good. party size is 4 instead of 6 in older games.
    • there could be more QoL change to the camera operation as currently there is only limited freedom when you operate the camera around. I understand that you can venture out of visible area(so you can't peak into area you haven't get close enough yet), but lack of free looking sometimes make navigation around tight corridor/cave area with multiple levels a bit tricky. (they can probably allow free look but use fog of war type to block/masking out intractable/enemies)
    • That said, even in the early area, there might be some glitches for events, how the game loading stuff, schedule tasks in weird order. ie. in one of the main sequence, it loads the map and play cinematic at same time, BUT, the map finish loading first and you see the "result" of the cinematic before it cuts in and started playing. So definitely don't expect it to be bug free, especially with the scale mentioned in the press.
    • It's probably gonna burn you quite a bit of time before you get comfortable with the system, I don't know how far into the game to allow you respec the character( it was mentioned by larian to be a feature but didn't know how it would be implemented), so you might play some hours and decide to restart if the respec feature is only available mid/late game to have a smoother run or challenge higher difficulty.
    • some of the keywords or system might be a bit confusing but fortunately there is wiki for BG3 already form years of early access.(which also mean it may or may not be out of date because of the patches)

I think overall I can look past the short coming and enjoy the game so far, no annoying crash or very flow breaking stuff. You do need to save frequently cause the auto save spot could be far apart. Best to save before you run into group of dots on your map AND after you finish a bit fight + short resting. The reason for this is this game does have trigger zone and you can't save during force triggered conversation/combat. If you forgot to rest it could put you into serious disadvantage(cause the high damage output spell or special skills are locked behind consumable points which only refresh after a long rest, and some events might be time relevant, so you have to weight your risk for proceed without rest and more rest but make your schedule tighter.(judging from a bit of search, it's event related, if you trigger a start of event but then go do other stuff the event will resolve itself even if you did nothing and long rest.)

  • That's the only way when I did the character creation. But I am glad that we don't have to do the dice roll one(which is a cheat engine magnet), so I guess it means in order to gain from 16->17 I would need to subtract more points from other stats just to level up 1 point.(cause that + button didn't light up when I reduced 2 or 3 points from Wisdom) but it seems that's very costly trade. A point to point seems more fair and let you create some crazy biased char out of gate.

  • I wish there is a version the gives more details on which party actually gets to decide what is considered "trusted" and the process of making your device "trusted". And what is this related to the TPM on bios?

  • Just spend hours making my first character today and honestly at the end just go with some instinct choice.(not familiar with the 5e rules, haven't played turned based RPG for a long time. I picked a High Elf/Dragonblood(Blue) Sorcerer focused on lightning spells. The last bit where you can allocate stat points I am at lost so I just go with recommended values. (ie. to go from 14->15 requires 2 points, that really throw me off and your main stat is at 16 "maxed"?? I thought 18 is the highest. Don't have time to waste on creating a EA character. )

I want to quickly go around, get familiar with the system so when the game released in a week to start over.

  • well, it has to follow the system cause it's a licensed job. However, it does not stop people from modding the game however they feel like to. A good frame work with proper modding support will last this game for years and years. (like a DM mode, random encounter with randomized party/scripted events during battle, etc.)

  • Yeah, I upscale all the time from 1440p to 2160p, free FPS or quality setting gains. It's not the best compare to the game that build with that in mind cause it directly use the driver upscale. But I honest couldn't notice the upscale artifact unless I tried really hard to spot it.

  • That should be illegal since eventually they will try to charge the service, and guess who would use this kind of service more? People with disabilities or have less time to do shopping in store. They should just list the same price and put service charge in the bill.(so I know how much they charge for paying the person that did the shopping for online orders. ) Inflating online price should be called out and make blog post, send to media etc and shut down that behavior.

  • It was the "traditional" pipeline and to be honest only good for the "publisher" and some big enough studio, but really aren't that good for those job hunting game devs(and part of the churn and burn culture, can't and won't trying to form union if your turn over is high.)

It is how you get broken games every new release cause the guys that sticks around as supervisor didn't actually code the previous games or know the actual workflow/pipeline that makes the last game(their last touching code/software might be like 10+ years ago), the middle leads etc might have burned out during last crunch and go to next company after their vacation because fuck this crunch thing I have a family, then then newbies wearing shiny shipped game under their belt move to next company for a better position/pay. So no one or very few actually knows how last time things were done and may or may not have a voice during decision making. Every game, you build the team almost ground up and thus, make similar and more mistakes with ever increasing pressure from schedule and scale.

It's not an healthy cycle, it is something that creative industry should break away from.

  • I don't know if it's possible but if you have some local resident that can band together and buy fresh product directly from the farmers? or do a group buy for common household supplies that should be cheaper with bulk order(ie, a costco account that helps to buy stuff for 10 household and everyone shares the cost) . I know it would replace all the purchase required, but in less competition area, at least you would have some form of "competition" from your own independent source.
