My dream is to have an abode in Melbourne, and also a second abode in a regional place I like that serves as a weekender but I will eventually retire there. I'd love to retire early; I don't think my body can handle hard physical labour for another 15 years even though I love it. That's probably it lol. It's only the lottery: when I was a kid a lottery win would set you up for life. Now I feel like it'll pay off your house and your kids education and not much more.
Edit: that's assuming I win something smallish. If I won like 15 million dollars or something that'd be very different.
That's a horrible thing you've been through! Disappointing of the cops to say the least. You were assaulted in a public place in front of how many witnesses? They should've been onto it straight away.
I leave the thread for a day or so to read a book I got obsessed with (Drift by C J Turner) and next thing people are talking in German about their pets and Tone's assaulted in the supermarket! Jesus Christ on a bicycle!
Had outing to Bunnings and Officeworks today 💸 Both Minipeelers like drawing, especially Miniest, and it was time for some new textas and sketchpads and stuff. Needed some plumbing supplies and I bought myself a hanging fern for the bathroom. I really love it, it adds so much life to the room and looks really cool. Somehow I managed to fit in a book, The Community by Christine Gregory. More crime lol, this time set in a small Australian country town. I was lucky in that this one was a real page turner, and the characters were diverse and interesting and kind of familiar.
I loved the style and characters of the Joshua Moehling book and wanted to read others but there weren't any more I could borrow from my library. The Lin Anderson books are set in Scotland and are very gritty forensic detective novels. Luckily for me she's a very prolific writer. The one I enjoyed the most so far was probably The Wild Coast, but I also really enjoyed Driftnet. I seem to be really enjoying the whole crime suspense thriller thing. It's just pure page turner enjoyment for me.
I ended up reading all of the Helen Forrester autobiographical books last week. I've gotten back into that old habits of mine where if I wake up during the night I'll read for a few hours in the quietness (or what passes for it around here).
I've been reading more books! In between working, doing laundry and going to the donut festival I've been reading a couple of Lin Anderson books, a Joshua Moehling book called And There He Kept Her, and started a couple of others I didn't like so I didn't persist with those. Loving the internet archive and Libby, free entertainment to offset the cost of taking the Minipeelers out!
I've got some cheap ones and they're ok for seeing stars in a basic way but you can't see like Saturn's rings or anything. Worth it to see the moon when full, looks awesome!
It's just awful isn't it, the expectation that Helen should just basically give up any chance at having a life so that she can be an unappreciated drudge and the mother can bludge and steal money. The first book inspired me to read the second one too!
Took the Minipeelers to The Lume for the last time. It was a tradition for us, and we went to almost all of the exhibitions there. The city is a lot more beautiful than I remember
I've loved Polly Woodside since I was a child. It always amazes me that they sailed from Dublin over the open ocean in that tiny little ship. Those sailors must've been pretty gutsy.
Thankyou again, I've finished the book last night! She has such a beautiful way of writing, so descriptive. My library didn't have the 2nd book in the series, but I found the Internet Archive has it and I've started reading it too. Her parents are so infuriating!
I'm sorry for what's happening. Dementia related ageing just sucks. 🫂
