  • In order to avoid being at home, after Elder's appointment we took a tram to Docklands and wandered around. It's a brisk day for it but we had fun at the Docklands park (the one on Harbour Esplanade with the trees on top of the grassy knoll and the wind spinny thing).

In all, I'm pretty impressed with the public art and green spaces in this city. It leads me to ask this question of the DT: what is your favourite piece of public art in Melbourne?

  • Jesus fucking Christ.. I just had this poor nurse ring me from the hospital, she's been running around the hospital for 20 minutes looking for my MIL. She checked with security and finally found out that the security guard just let her out and she got in a cab! This poor nurse was beside herself, having to call and tell me they'd literally lost her, and wanted to know if she should call the police! I thought, if she's got in a cab she should be just about here, so I go to the front window and here she is, doddling up the driveway! Apparently she got sick of waiting to see a Dr (they are very busy, when is a hospital not busy!) and just left. The security guard just let her walk out and asked if she wanted a cab and pointed to one and she got in it. She was in her nightie and dressing gown and grippy sock slipper things. Unbelievable! The poor nurse! At least I was able to tell her that she'd arrived home. Fucking hell. Mr P is furious and I'm pissed off with her too, the worry she caused that poor nurse. And complaining and moaning about public hospitals and the narrow bed. Okay she didn't see a doctor when she thought she should've, but at least you're being monitored and cared for in the meantime and if anything had happened she was in the right place. She took offence that a big "footballer looking bloke" came in and was seen by a doctor pretty much straight away.

  • Well that was eventful! Got home yesterday and got dinner on the go, then got a call to go in to my MIL and she was evidently having some kind of medical episode, potentially that weird pain women get when they're having heart trouble. The Ambos thought it was possibly an infection, but it needed further investigation. I knew she was anxious about going to hospital so I went in with her, stayed with her a few hours until they got her hooked up to monitoring equipment and settled. Then when I finally left there were no cabs out front, so I jumped on a tram to Flinders Street station and got a cab home from there. The cab was like a brand new car, really smooth and quiet, and we went on CityLink (which I never use, so I got to see the cheese stick and the zipper thing and that tunnel thing that's blue at night, which was quite pretty really). Then I had my cold curry (Beef massaman.. I was too lazy to heat it up but it was still tasty) and hung out the washing which I almost forgot lol. I'm glad I've taken tomorrow and Thursday off, my intention was to spend time with the kids but it'll be useful for different reasons now.

  • Mr P was supposed to go to a mate's place for a weekend of catching up with old friends, and we were all looking forward to it (me especially). But it fell through when someone Mr P doesn't like (for good reasons too lengthy to say here) kind of wormed their way in. So Mr P decided he wasn't going. Sigh. I mean, we've been getting along ok lately, but he's always here. I was looking forward to him not being here for a night or two at the start of the school holidays. I need a good night's sleep without someone going for a smoke/pee/snack every so often during the night. It's impossible in this damn place.

Neighbours are renovating, so it was banging and sawing and drilling all day. Then we ordered Maccas and they got the order wrong. No matter which Maccas I order from, or when or what I order, they always get the order wrong. It's a treat for the Minipeelers but it leaves me pissed off every time.

Now I'm relaxing in bed in a quiet darkened room sighs with contented relief. We're going to the library to return some books tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that, the calming quiet, minimal people and the smell of new library. Anyway, thanks for listening to my whinging!

  • My go to for that age group was bath toys, simple puzzles, those hard cardboard paged books, simple musical instruments (but nothing that's a choking hazard). At that age it's gotta be stuff that's ok to put in their mouth. You're on the money with bigger clothes: suddenly you're dressing them one morning and their clothes don't fit anymore!

  • Miniest didn't get an offer from her first choice of high school. I came home to a little girl crying in her bedroom, in bed with the curtains closed. I explained that it's part of the process and probably ed dept policy for every child to be offered a place at a school in their catchment area. We still have an appointment with them later this month.. on the very day appeals must be lodged by. So there's still a (probably slim) chance. But 💔
