  • Doesn't seem like Spark offers anything other than IMAP+SMTP Exchange support, just like Thunderbird: https://sparkmailapp.com/add-exchange-mac

So if your job blocks those protocols (for security reasons) then you can't use Spark for your work email.

Anybody know what the paid plug-in for Thunderbird is? I'm curious to see what they're doing, if they have some sort of hacky workaround.

  • Ahhhh fair enough, I didn't realize MAPI was a paid plugin, that suuuuucks

EDIT: Reading up on this, it sounds like it doesn't work because Microsoft doesn't want it to work. MAPI is not an open standard like POP and IMAP. And they're actually in the process of moving to EWS, which is also not an open standard. That fucking sucks!

  • That's a good point, Samsung phones (and other brands) put apps that you haven't used in a while into deep sleep. That deep sleep list would be a good way to find apps that you should probably remove.

  • uhhh..... paid plugin? just use IMAP

  • When I play a lot of Rainbow 6 Siege I have the urge to shoot out security cameras IRL

  • look at Blockbuster, Borders and Polaroid

To your point, those all took like a decade to become obsolete and go out of business.

  • Right, and people buy more of those phones than other brands....

  • Doesn't limit me THAT much, pretty much all Samsung phones sold in the US have fun Verizon support. Sometimes Verizon is the best option, it depends entirely on where you live and work.

  • No Verizon support again this year.....I'm not a fan of buying phones that limit my carrier options.

But if you don't care about that, this phone looks GREAT. I always see people complain about a lack of small phone options.....put your money where your mouth is!

  • If they use it on submarines full of billionaires it's good enough for the Steam Deck!

  • Sounds like your TV isn't fully compatible with x265. You can get around that by using a modern streaming stick that supports it.

  • Pretty sure it's just more of a hardware age issue. Smart TV makers don't put much effort into their firmware, so if they don't support a codec now they probably won't support it ever. Devices made before a certain year probably won't ever support H265. I suspect we'll run into the same thing with AV1, unfortunately. It's another objectively superior codec that will have compatible issues. 🤷

  • H265 is objectively superior in just about every way UNLESS you're trying to play it on hardware that doesn't support it. The only reason to use H264 is for broad compatibility.

  • Something that people need to realize: If you want a VPN for PRIVACY, Mullvad (edit: also maybe IVPN) is the only good option on this list. They make it very easy for you to maintain complete anonymity, they don't even WANT your email address, you can use crypto, or you can literally mail them an envelope of cash with a note inside containing your unique ID and they'll load up your account with that value. It's ridiculous how seriously they take this stuff. And if you're really concerned about privacy, you should also be taking extra steps like using a hardened OS and browser, and using disposable virtual machines. But I suspect that most of us here aren't that concerned with actual privacy.

If you want a VPN for PIRACY, any of these options are probably fine as long as they don't block or slow torrent traffic. Just use the fastest one here that you can afford. The only thing you're really doing in this case is blocking your torrent traffic from your ISP. Remember, if you give them a credit card and your email address, then that's not private! It's just for piracy. It's important to look at your priorities and pick a VPN accordingly.
