  • Level 1a. Stuff slightly more complicated than a list of settings, usually for something like a VFD or a stepper motor controllers. Not as common.

    Level 2 PLCs, HMIs, and the black magic robotic stuff. Stand alone equipment. Like imagine a machine that can take something, heat it up, and give it to the next machine.

    Level 3: DCS and SCADA. Data control center and whatever SCADA stands for, I always forget. This is typically for integrating or at least data collection of multiple stand alone equipment for level 2.

    Level 4: the integration layer between Level 3 and whatever means the company has for entering in sales.

    Like everything in software this is all general. Some places will mix layers, subtract layers, add them. I would complain about the inconsistent nature of it all but without it I would be unemployed

    Is this specific software engineering languages? or is this electrical engineering or what kind of work is this?

  • For those wondering, "Hurting the feelings of the Chinese people" is an actual phrase (伤害中国人民的感情) it started all the way back in the late 50s.

    this last part "感情 ganqing" translated as "feelings" or "emotional attachment", it's actually an important part of chinese culture, esp business culture (similar to this is "guanxi" which is someone's network). These are major parts of chinese culture and relationships with others. this phrase is more like "you're hurting our relationship"

    I don't know about prices in NYC but I can assure you that the cost of an airbnb in asia is nothing compared to the cost of a hotel (for the same standard)

  • In my country (Chile 🇨🇱) there are people and communities that are recognized for preserving history & culture that would be otherwise forgotten by modern society, they are given the title of “Living Human Treasures”.

  • You’d still have to explain what kind of traditions you mean.

    Well, there is the cantonese ethnic group with their own traditions like food, they have a different history than people from northern china, the people may be more spiritual than mainland china, the cantonese language itself is distinctive from other chinese language (it is a dialect of the yue languages), hong kong itself has its own history and culture because it's been an 'east meets west' city for so long

    I don't think these aspects are specific to HK, I would imagine it would be like someone from a minority ethnic group in South Africa or India or Afghanistan where they want to preserve their own ethnic group's language and culture and history against the majority group's culture

  • I got a ton of resumes with that kind of stuff that’s illegal for me to ask. I asked one of the existing employees from KL what was up with it and he explained it’s normal there because ethnic Chinese people are disliked there. So a lot of the companies based in KL require a photo so they can throw out anyone that looks Chinese.

  • They ask innocent, shallow questions that don’t seem to get much information from you: last name, home town, schools, diet, temple where you worship. Add that to visual clues like whether you have a string around your chest, where you have a dot placed on your face or how big the dot is or whatever, etc. Put all those small, innocent little bits of information into a big picture and it’s basically a logic puzzle of finding enough clues to narrow down the caste.
