  • How about you don't use it if it is to be paid by subscription? How is it justified to go against an agreement just because you don't like it?

  • With what money do you suggest people who make the games or the movies should be paid? The way of least resistance is an incredible weak argument to justify taking the work of others without paying for it.

  • So you also believe people shouldn't need a ticket for a concert, for example?

  • Why is the argument bad? Please elaborate.

  • And you all just were happy and bro fisted people who ignored the licensing terms?

  • Yes I am. And the two companies I worked for both were small, offered their products for cheap and still had people pirating the modules or circumvent licensing terms. It's a legit problem that a lot of people don't see why they should pay for software simply because it's sometimes easy to steal it.

  • People pirate software that is buyable on GoG, itch.io or movies that are on disc all the time. Just because some platforms offer the product with just a license shouldn't mean it's now morally justified to pirate it.

But I see people bringing the statement because of platform like Steam or Netflix.

  • Pirating software is stealing as well. That's pretty simple. I know people who have stolen their entire gaming library. That's thousands of hours of work and dedication people put in. Why don't they deserve to get money for it?

The same goes for other software, music and movies.

  • People want at the same time that wages are higher but they also do not want to pay, for example, software developers appropriately.

No one wants to be part of the problem, though. So some people justify their copyright infringing by claiming it's some sort of movement for justice and rebellion against corporations.

  • I bet you aren't a software developer.

  • Banning the burning or "desecration" of a specific genre of books because it rallies the feelings of highly religious people is pandering to the views of the religious extremists. That is my point.

People who are level headed about their religion won't demand that a state forbids to burn a book. And they won't get worked up by it to the point they think this is something that should be handled on a state level.

  • Level headed people shouldn't be out of their mind because some nutjob burns a book. Pretty sure people who are like you write aren't keen on getting blasphemy laws back.

  • Sure, because every white elderly woman can only be a racist asshole. Makes you look like a Karen.

  • I would guess countries/societies with a (much) smaller wealth gap and more homogenous culture/values have less mass shootings. Perhaps in these societies there is less isolation between people, for better and worse?

  • Getting raped by the friend of my (much older) boyfriend when I was 15 years old. I can pretty much point most of the shit that happened in my life later down the line back to that in some way or another.

Not finishing school with my friends, eating disorder, bad health because of eating disorder and alcohol abuse, abusive relationships, mental health issues, anger, loneliness, ...

It's a perpetual circle of problems making more problems when you somehow were unlucky to be the victim of a violent crime.

  • Video Games. I can escape into video games from everything. They protect me when I am lonely, in pain, suicidal, desperate. I can even play video games in my mind.

  • But that doesn't make a lot of sense since it doesn't matter on what instance a community is hosted or a user first registered. That's the whole point of the Fediverse...

  • It's still a questionable way to approach it. Why should the consequence be that people are simply "too weird about sex" and that should change? Instead of that the boys are weird and should change? It's typical victim blaming.

This perspective (the victim should change) is very prevalent when the crime is sexual harassment of girls and women.

  • No I thought you meant that being hurt by fake porn about yourself is "being weird about sex".

  • I think in this case less mild punishment would send the appropriate signal that this isn't just a little joke or a small misdemeanor.

There are still way too many people who believe sexual harassment etc. aren't that huge of a deal. And I believe the fact that perpetrators so easily get away with it plays into this.

(I am not sure how it is in the US, in my country the consequence of crimes against bodily autonomy are laughable.)
