  • I would suggest getting a book called Thinking Fast and Slow, and reading it slowly and deliberately, less than 5-10 pages a day. It not only tells you how to find these kind of fallacies but also why you're likely to fall for them and how.

  • The vulnerability behind that was patched so it seems unlikely.

  • Pretty much. This is far beyond what an LLM can do as well.

  • Are we also getting DDoSd? I'm getting constant timeouts and json errors here over the last one hour or so.

  • Hope you have a good trip :) I know the struggle! I'm a vegetarian and often it's very hard for me to find dishes I can eat in many countries. I have shifted towards renting Airbnbs with kitchen and making rice or pasta with local veggies for most of my meals for this reason.

  • You can get prepackaged meals that you can eat after submerging the packet in hot water for a few minutes. Hot water is easily available in most place, even more so if you carry a flask.

Protein bars are filling and quite nice to eat. Dried fruits like apricots or dates are also a nice calorie rich option. Bread and jam/pb are the usual travel staples. Milk powder and cornflakes/cereal is also an option, but not one of my favourites.

You can also carry out forms of bread like pretzels, bagels or focaccia which will last for a few days or even more.

Don't forget that experiencing local food is part of any travel experience :) you're not going to travel to Iceland to just eat in the future. So it might be a good idea to explore local supermarkets for some local fruits, bread, snacks and so on. Hopefully some Icelandic person will chime in with more suggestions.

  • Unfortunately my fridge is the only source of ice and it stops working when power goes out. The fans are low power and can be run from DC easily. Ideally I would have cold packs or something stocked up but our fridge is choke full of actual food.

  • Thanks :) Using an electric fan right now. The main problem is that we have 80% or more humidity so the water based steps are not really working. Even sweat isn't evaporating.

  • Reading this right now during a blackout in extreme heat. Sadly many suggestions don't work in high humidity.

  • The difference is that somehow the nets in our brains are creating emergent behaviour while the nets in code, even with a lot more power aren't. I feel we are probably missing something pivotal in constructing them.

  • Radio waves are light too. The article says that they're planning to use near infrared range for Lo-Fi. It will basically be mostly limited to short distances and line of sight. I also wonder how natural light in those frequencies from cooking, exhaust etc. would affect the signal.

  • All of those seem reasonable 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • I don't think Clarkson is a great guy and you couldn't pay me to watch Top Gear or whatever else he hosts 🤷🏾‍♂️ but I liked this show mostly.

That sounds really cool :) Especially the first one, though I struggle with watching awkward situations on TV. I've been recently watching The Signal (one of the best TV shows I've seen across all languages) and Extraordinary Attorney Woo because the protagonist is autistic like me :) I have been struggling with EAW though because how much of drama it has.

That's a really interesting way of looking at it 🤔 I sort of work at the other end of the spectrum where if I can find reasons, then I can try to fix stuff but I struggle with feelings that I can't resolve reasons for at a basic level. I have been practicing mindfulness for a while and it has helped me in this regard by focusing on little things that matter, though the world is burning 😅

  • I read some reasearch recently that talked about how emotions are strongly interrelated with physical state unlike thoughts, which helped me make a little bit more sense of what is going on.

What are you watching right now? I struggle with Friends/Community/The Good Place for the same reason. I like the parts where they just have fun and do interesting things but then everything gets mixed in with interpersonal drama that makes me feel uncomfortable.

If it's your cup of tea, there's a TV series called 'Clarkson's Farm' about Jeremy Clarkson trying to run his farm which I found to be touching and soothing in a way :)

  • You login once, you're set for years. Combined inbox from all your accounts so that you can see everything in one place. You only need to familiarise yourself with one interface.

  • Yeah :( but then again thunderbird is one of the few things I would prefer to install using the native package.

  • I'm in the same club. Have been having a rough patch recently but spend today watching a funny movie and learning a little which made me feel a bit more positive. How is your day going? Anything interesting going on?

  • Just got in the beta channel :) Looks awesome and feels much more responsive. This is an amazing step! I remember how it looked like thunderbird might die after Mozilla ditched it but here we are.
