God I hope they don't flood Lemmy

Another way to look at it is that they already had a media company with an established viewer base and reach, and they used it to broadcast the investigation details as widely as possible while still maintaining privacy for everyone involved. What would you have them do, get the investigation company to post the “all clear” message somewhere that nobody will ever see it? They already had a soapbox, so they used it; They likely didn’t see any need to reinvent the wheel when they already had a way to broadcast the message.
Also, Costco sells it over the counter for very cheap. You don’t need a membership to use the pharmacy; Just tell the door person that you’re there for the pharmacy, and they’ll wave you through. They don’t take credit cards, but debit is accepted.
It depends on where you live, but it’s likely anywhere from $20 to $50.
Also, the cheap pregnancy tests work just as well as the super expensive ones. You can get a pack of 10 for like $15.
One of my favorite sayings at work is “you can’t make people read.” Some workflow has changed, and management wants to alert everyone? They’re very quick to go “oh just post a sign or send a memo.” No, you can’t make people read. People will miss it, even if it’s a gigantic flashing neon sign.
Ah yes. “Someone said she was harassed. Let’s post all of the investigation details publicly.”
That will go well. There’s zero chance that it could backfire and turn a victim into a target, or suppress future victims from speaking out because the last person to do so got doxxed /s
Situations like this need to be handled with discretion so that you can avoid re-victimizing anyone who was wronged. Even if the original victim was found to be crying wolf, there’s still a victim somewhere who was wronged; The person/people they accused, for instance.
Worth noting that the follow option on your account likely isn’t accurate. That’s a large part of the complaints; I didn’t follow the potus or vp accounts when looking at it on my own page, but my friend saw that I was following them via the “followed by [friend’s name] +[#] more” option. Like when you tap that, it allows you to see which of your mutual friends follow the account. And I showed up on that list. On my own account page, it didn’t show that I was following them. The button said “Follow” so I couldn’t unfollow them.
Here is the vp page from my perspective. Notice that I’m not following it, and therefore can’t unfollow it:
Now here’s my friend’s “your mutual friends follow this account” list, which shows me as a follower:
I had to restrict the vp account, which then updated the “Follow” button into an “unfollow” button. But the fact that I had to restrict the account before I was allowed to unfollow it (because I was being forced to shadow-follow the account) is what people have issues with.
Some of the Berserker fights were pretty fucking rough. The one with three separate berserkers (I think two mages and a melee fighter) had me wanting to throw my controller at the screen. Every time I would get an opening on one, I’d get blasted from behind by the other two.
I still have every single line of that “Kairi’s inside me” cutscene memorized, because it was so extremely long and was immediately before the hardest story boss fight in the game. I felt like I was throwing myself against a brick wall with how many times I had to retry that Riku fight.
In comparison, the second Maleficent (dragon) fight was a breeze. I spanked her in like two or three tries, max.
Most people agree that Hollow Bastion is where the difficulty actually spikes. Before then, most bosses won’t really give you any trouble as long as you’re properly leveled. But Hollow Bastion is what separates the “easy” section of the game from the “hard” section.
I remember in the early days of /AskReddit, where people were using it for general questions and even emergencies. There were a lot of “my house is on fire and I’m on the second floor, what should I do”, “I think there’s a burglar outside my bedroom, what should I do”, “my partner just choked on their steak, how do I do the Heimlich maneuver” types of posts. It got to be so bad that the mods had to add a “this sub is not for emergencies. Call your local emergency hotline instead, you fucking dumbass” rule to the sidebar.
I think some were trolls, but I think the other side is that people turn their brains off when they panic. They revert back to whatever they’re most used to doing. And if you’re someone who consistently goes to Reddit for answers to basic questions, that’s what you’ll end up doing.
And the fact that so many people believed it to be real is what really highlights the extent of pro-life craziness. Poe’s Law is in full effect in this thread, with so many people mistaking the bill as genuine.
The bill was introduced by a pro-choice democrat.
Poe’s Law is in full effect in this comments section; So many people have missed the fact that the bill is hyperbolic on purpose. It’s meant to be sarcastic to poke fun at pro-life republicans, not actually something that has any chance of passing.
The fact that you believed it was real means it was successful in shining a light on pro-lifers’ craziness.
As much as cloud flare is the evil overlord, they're actually highly resistant to blocking sites. You really need to force their hand before they'll block it they don't just flip the switch on any request.
I mean, it took a literal act of congress. But even CloudFlare needs to abide by the law.
+1 for the Tale of Two Wastelands mention. It’s the single greatest mod you can install, because it brings all of the quality of life improvements from New Vegas (like true iron sights) into FO3. Plus all the mods you install on FO:NV will also run on Tale of Two Wastelands, so you can actually get a decent playing experience.
That’s a CloudFlare page. CloudFlare is responsible for something like 25% of the entire world’s internet traffic. Even if they aren’t hosting it, they’re still dealing with routing. Self-hosting in another country won’t help if your traffic still bounces off of a CloudFlare server.
This is similar to the situation that started the Itch.io and FunkoPop feud. Itch.io was hosting a game that FunkoPop believed infringed on their trademark. Instead of just submitting a request to take the game down, Funko went above Itch’s head and got the entire site blocked. Itch.io didn’t even know anything was wrong until their site was suddenly inaccessible. And it was inaccessible even though their servers were perfectly fine, because the systems used to access their servers had been the ones to actually block the site.
They’ve been pro Israel the whole time. They’ve never been about defending Jews; They just defend Israel, and call any opponents antisemitic. The issue is that as Israel slid into fascism, the ADL found themselves having to defend it. Which means that now they find themselves having to defend Israel’s fascist allies, who are doing blatantly fascist shit.
I remember back in the golden era of Reddit AMAs with Victoria… There was an AMA with one of the higher ups at PornHub. She was like a site admin, so she had some high level knowledge of how the site actually ran, and she could see stuff like the site’s user statistics, average watch time, etc…
Someone asked how often people actually use the “share to Facebook” button that is on every video. She said it happened more often than most people would want to believe. Like apparently there’s an entire subset of Facebook users who are just blatantly horny on main like it’s no big deal.
§86a STGB allows for the use of "symbols of anti-constitutional organizations" in cases of:
- art (e.g. the movie "Downfall")
- scientific research
- education
- news or other broadcast (covering Nazi Protests in the US for example, German news station don't have to censor the Swastika flags or the like)
Which is funny because the video game series Wolfenstein famously had to change all of their in-game imagery. The series is about killing Nazis, but it was banned in Germany until the game devs removed all of the swastikas. Because apparently showing the swastika is banned, even when it’s used explicitly to say “these are the bad guys.”
Executive Orders are more like a corporate memo to the government. It’s not a law passed by congress, but it can direct the government in how to administer existing laws or regulations.
Yup, that was the first thing I noticed too. Basically lorem ipsum for product codes.
They ended up developing a rudimentary sign language based on facial expressions and gestures. Because the women who were taking care of them were strictly instructed to never speak… But they were never given any instructions regarding facial expressions or gestures. So the kids learned that expressions and gestures are how to communicate.
Yeah, I have seen a few “Roman salute… throwing his heart… autistic… etc” people in the threads about Edolf Muskler’s salute.
