  • The trick is that Capital wants a device that can stop climate change and make money at the same time. Something they can sell. Like cold fusion, or efficient sequestration, or solar shades, or some other bullshit product that makes money. But the truth is, saving the world doesn't make you money, and it isn't free. Bill Ney said it best:

What I'm saying is the planet's on fucking fire. There are a lot of things we could do to put it out. Are any of them free? No, of course not, nothing's free, you idiots! Grow the fuck up, you're not children anymore. I didn't mind explaining photosynthesis to you when you were twelve. But you're adults now, and this is an actual crisis! Got it? Safety glasses off, motherfuckers.

  • Yeah, so why is Bill Gates 5G microchip the conspiracy? Why not Elon Musk Starlink Neuralink? There is an actual evil mad scientist selling the technologies they are actually scared of, why don't they just point their fears at the actual danger?

  • In my country, your birth certificate has both your deadname and your new name on it if you changed your name. When I signed up for PayPal, I had already transitioned, so I put in my current, legal name. PayPal asked for proof that I am who I claim to be, to prevent fraud. Fair enough, I gave them my birth certificate. They looked at it, and then changed the name on my account to my deadname, which was no longer my legal name. When I told them to change it back, they said I'd have to submit a change of name form.

I knew Musk was transphobic sooner than most of the public did after that experience.

  • Hypnotism is magic, and therefore exists at the boundary of the real and the unreal. Its supposed mechanisms and the fiction it uses for effectiveness is unreal, but its effects upon people are real, and these real effects depend upon the fictional aspects. That's what makes it magic.

Mainstream medicine considers it unethical to use magic, because magic requires lies to work. But magic is better at treating some situations than honest medicine. The question is, are you willing to be lied to in order to save your life? Mainstream doctors do not believe this risk is worth it.

  • Yeah precisely. I bought a PS4 to play Spiderman. Then they asked me to buy a PS5 to play Spiderman 2. Fuck. That. My PC is older than my PS4, and I'll be playing Spiderman 2 on the PC when it gets ported. This is what made me mostly give up on consoles after Halo 5, and Spiderman has convinced me to abandon them entirely. Except for my Switch, which is still going strong and playing new releases after 6 years. Nintendo knows what's up. Sony and Microsoft don't.

You can't do the math on the price per performance of a PC at one point in time. You have to do the long term math.
