Install F-Droid from the official site (should be an APK - it's safe), and, from within F-Droid, you can install Neo Store. Then you can use Neo Store to access F-Droid stuff. Just make sure you stick to official/trusted repos, and you should be fine. I mainly use the Play Store for stuff, but sometimes the updates drop faster on F-Droid (or there's a handful of FOSS apps that aren't in the Play Store).
Mine won't seem to update beyond 0.0.6 in Obtainium. It sees the update, downloads, click Update, and bam, still 0.0.6. Even tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Same thing.
Slightly off topic. Obtainium sees that there's an update to 0.0.7, but can't seem to update 0.0.6. It downloads, tries to update, and boom - update available, with currently installed 0.0.6. Uninstall, reinstall, 0.0.6 again. I guess that's just an Obtainium issue. A little weird though.
I keep trying new Lemmy apps. Some are very good, polished, and will work for most people. No disrespect to any of the third-party apps - I keep rotating between a few to see which I'll end up using most. Not knocking any of them. But I just keep coming back to Jerboa. Usually, the third-party apps will just be missing that little something. And on the rare occasion I feel like Jerboa needs a feature that another app already has implemented, bam, it's in the next update (such as DMing users in this update). Not here to suck on that Jerboa peepee, but just wanted to say thanks. With all the appreciation posts going around for the new hotness apps, there's still some of us that appreciate the classic and all the work put into it by the various contributors.
This is the feature I was going to request. My main account, I like to sort by Hot, but my alt, I like to sort by New. It'd be nice to have it do that per account rather than app-wide. I think a good way would be in the left panel, where you can set (for example) Frontpage as default, the ... you click there, have there be sort options as well.
It could have been you. I have a terrible memory. I just remember seeing someone comment that. I don't really follow the Discord too much, but was a little more active over the last couple days in hopes to see a release date for the per-registration.
In the past, it's been Android only. I saw someone comment in the Discord about LJD looking into converting the code to something iOS could use. No idea if they were being funny or whatever, but nobody seemed to laugh or refute that. So maybe he's looking into it? I don't want to get anyone's hopes up though.

I've been checking the Play Store twice a day since the alpha testing started. I can't tell if Google sent it back for some reason, or if they're just really, really slow to approve.
Discord said the pre-registration should be live in a day or two. And that was 3 days ago. I'm impatient. 😂
Honestly, I'd suggest making an alt account (maybe on lemmynsfw) just for NSFW, add the login to Jerboa, and switch to that account when you want to view NSFW stuff. It's also nice because you can make a subscription list there and it won't affect your main/non-NSFW account.
I remember there being a YouTube video of some people that did it in a small town (or neighborhood) and made, essentially, a DIY neighborhood mesh network. I keep looking up stuff, and I'm only finding terms like "relay mesh." If I find the YouTube video after a reasonable search, I'll edit.
EDIT: Was the term WISP (Wireless ISP) network? It's a setting you can do on your router and what the videos I was watching were talking about. The YouTube channel is Freethink, and they cover it being done in Detroit, NYC, and Dylan's Beach.
It's tedious, but I found just looking at lists of communities to be more helpful. If something looks interesting, open it up, check it out, and subscribe. Browsing your subscribed communities is an infinitely better experience. Plus, if you're willing to take the time blocking communities, I feel like that takes just as much time as scrolling through a list of ones for potential matches for your interests.
