  • Yep, lemm.ee was my alt for when lemmy.world was down. Decided to go ahead and just make it my main account.

  • I was going to say I slightly disagree, but then I thought about it some more and realized they probably just see it as SteamOS in the same way Android doesn't make people think about Linux either.

  • Guess my alt account has now become my main account. Thus, the Lemmy dance continues.

  • I switched default to All (just to switch it off of Frontpage), then back to Frontpage. That didn't seem to change it at the time. But then I closed and reloaded, and it looks like it might have fixed it this time? It seems to default to Frontpage again. 🫠

  • Very minor thing, but I have Frontpage as my default, but when I switch accounts or load the app, it defaults to All. I set Frontpage to default again, but still loads to All for each account. Seems to be with the new update, as it hasn't been an issue otherwise.

  • You're correct. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. Fixed the link.

  • Wow. I didn't realize there were playtesting subs. I'm not surprised, but that sounds like it could be pretty cool.

  • Lemmy Account Settings Instance Migrator

It's a tool that basically just allows you to download a list of communities you're subscribed to, which is good to have as a backup if your instance ever goes down.

There's also an upload option for if you make a new account someplace else, which can take that backup of your communities and subscribe the new account to all of them automatically, rather than starting from scratch.

  • Started on kbin.social and beehaw.org. Realized I liked Lemmy just a little more early on and stuck with Beehaw. But then they started to defederate from larger instances with open signups. So I joined lemmy.world to be part of the bigger picture. Then it got too big and people want to play the DDoS game, so now I've got this alt on lemm.ee as well. We'll see where it goes from here. 😂

  • You can, sort of.

Use LASIM to download your subbed communities next time lemmy.world is up. Make a new account on another instance. Upload your communities to the new account with LASIM.

Unfortunately, posts/comments don't go - but you can do like me and just leave a trail between your accounts (if you care enough). I just link to and from my old/new accounts in the bio each time I make one. It's a little janky, but it works - and it's better than waiting hours for lemmy.world to be up for 12 minutes before going down again.

  • You need to add an Xposed module for it to block ads on YouTube though, requiring root. AdAway VPN mode on unrooted phones won't block YouTube ads. I just triple checked and tried it again to make sure I wasn't talking out of my ass.

  • That was definitely a controversial move. 😂

I think it's "easier" when you first come to Lemmy (or similar) to join the biggest server with all the communities. Being able to interact with communities everywhere, despite where your home instance is, takes some time to conceptualize. I actually think Lemmy has been easier to understand with that than, say, Mastodon.

  • That's the only method for it to work on unrooted phones.

  • Highly recommended. You can even export your subscriptions from YouTube and import them into NewPipe. But that's for another thread. I use NewPipe almost exclusively now, having YouTube links pull up in NewPipe. No ads. And with SponsorBlock, you can skip the in-video ads (with community-driven data). Not to mention, you can also stream music from Bandcamp, and it supports PeerTube, etc, as well.

  • I don't have a good ad blocker for you other than AdAway. It won't block YouTube ads on an unrooted phone, but it can on a rooted one. You can try in-browser mobile YouTube with Firefox + uBlock, but I would suggest switching away from the native YouTube app and getting NewPipe with SponsorBlock from F-Droid.

EDIT: Corrected link to current NewPipe.

  • The good news is, Republicans aren't really about pursuing wokeness as much anymore. But polling also suggests they're much more in favor of Trump still, somehow, in spite of everything. So that's the other shoe dropping. They're back on their "law and order," unless the law and order is coming down on Trump, it seems. 😂

  • Troll 2. So many quotable lines and unforgettable scenes. And you don't even have to watch Troll 1, because there is no Troll 1 - at least not in relation to, or in the context of, this film.

  • I noticed Jerboa saying something about my account being verified on lemmy.world in between 502s and other network errors. I've never seen that before, but looks like it's not exclusive to you.

  • I wish the myth of Linux being a scary place would go away. I run Tumbleweed as a daily driver, and I only go into the terminal when I want to, but I definitely don't have to for anything I can think of off the top of my head - even if it might be easier. I think most distros do a good job of creating a user-friendly experience these days.

  • That's why I created this lemm.ee account. It seemed silly just waiting for lemmy.world to come back up all the time. That's the beauty of the Fediverse. 😁
