  • The irony of a Star Trek fan saying this.

SNW and LD are the only two Star Trek shows with consistently good writing and acting.

  • How do you know livestock cows don't already know this?

  • So in cafes and restaurants you get kettles at your table to heat water for tea, and at home you put teapots on the stove to cook tea?
Or were the people I was replying to getting the two confused?

  • More content like the Chinese Cooking Demystified channel, and the Food 52 stuff with chef Lucas Sin.

I like to watch stuff where I'm getting some of the history and geography of the techniques, ingredients and dishes being presented; while also being talked through the various chemical reactions going on at every stage and why they're important to the desired outcome of the dish.

Plant based content would very much be appreciated too.

  • Are kettle and teapot switched around in US English or something?

  • I thought kettles didn't work in america because your electricity is too weak?

  • Me after watching Invincible over the weekend. Guess who's having all the flashbacks now?

  • If a defeatist attitude means people just won't procreate but still continue eating loads of animal products, not recycling (lmao) and regularly buying new things and driving everywhere- it would actually be a good thing for the hypothetical future where it's possible to reverse the damage we've caused.

  • We're over 8 billion people now and going to be well out of fresh water by the end of the century (if we even make it that far) and arable land soon after (if plants even survive that long what with the heat and unpredictable weather).

If all capitalism, war, and industry completely shut down right now, the resulting genocidal famine still wouldn't be enough to stop the feedback loops already in place.

The blue ocean event is imminent (likely now in 2027) and once our ice caps melt, all the solar radiation the earth's been reflecting gets trapped by the ocean and huge amounts of methane will be released from the seabed.

And even if that new fancy reflective white paint scientists just came up with gets the go ahead and starts being produced on a massive scale for global roll out, the manufacture and supply chains will add colossal amounts of carbon and other pollutants to the atmosphere.

So the future is looking pretty bleak guys. But yeah sure, let's all recycle and keep eating meat and having kids because surely the world can't end like that. High five for the human race!

  • Agreed.

The problem being: how many people have access to recycling their plastic waste? And how much of that 'recycled' plastic waste actually gets recycled, as opposed to shipped to Thailand (or where-ever) and dumped in landfills?

I'm in the uk and while we're technically all big on recycling here, many households don't have access to it (as there's no room on the streets for the extra bins) and lot of people here also don't drive, and aren't living near recycling collection/disposal facilities, so won't be recycling that way either.
