  • Did smarttube have custom feeds? I only saw playlists (where you add videos to them manually) and the ability to pin individual channels to the sidebar.

What I have in mind is an option that lets you scroll through the recent content from a group of channels (ex. cooking, travel, self hosting, tech review, etc.)

  • Very cool! Have you explored running this on an Android TV at all, since that's what I was thinking of trying this on. That way you can flip through channels without needing to deal with login on TVs. Also I don't think YouTube supports making feeds for channel types (ex. Cooking etc.), whereas an RSS feed would make it possible

  • Welcome 😊

  • This reminds me of book covers from children's mystery novels

Small town girl and the mystery of the boat necklace

  • I may be wrong, but I think his content was more for a younger audience? I don't have many examples, but the people I remember seeing watching his stuff were around 5-10 years old

  • We've been overdue for a very big one for a while. Kids do earthquake drills in school, infrastructure is slowly being prepared for it, and alert systems are tested annually

But past that it's rare to have any shaking really

For example, this article opens with

    https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/local-news/vancouver-eartherquake-reactions-strike-bc-coast-2025-10270214

'It was quite scary': Metro Vancouverites react to 5.1 magnitude earthquake off B.C. coast

"I think the first that comes to mind is, 'Is it leading to the big one?'" one resident said.

  • I'll fix that one too 😄

  • I posted the wrong link, I didn't know there was one yesterday as well

    Swapped it now

edit: swapped it again to your link

  • We're going to explore some more. We didn't disable it, so it might be in the config somewhere

    It's been out for a while: https://mastodon.social/@pixelfed/110727848627479712

Personally I found the mastodon sign up to be unreliable, and ended up making an account separately, back when I was on another Pixelfed instance

  • Unfortunately you can't do that yet. That's one of those things that will hopefully be possible eventually with the Fediverse. Right now you can view content from elsewhere, but the accounts are tied to the instance that you are on.

It is possible to sign in with a Mastodon account on some instances, thanks to an integration they set up. It might be possible to do something similar with Lemmy, but I imagine it would be more difficult. Mastodon and Pixelfed were relatively similar already.

For example, it's technically possible to view your lemmy user on pixelfed.ca: https://pixelfed.ca/i/web/profile/798599852495369073

You can also view a pixelfed.ca user on here: https://lemmy.ca/u/shadow@pixelfed.ca

However both profiles are blank, so federation between Pixelfed and Lemmy isn't as smooth as say, Pixelfed and Mastodon

  • I don't think there is an option in the main admin console for that, but we can look around for any settings in the config.

On that other instance, was your account set to private initially?

  • Relevant bit

Over the weekend, Spencer sat down for a lengthy interview with XboxEra in which he discussed his favorite games, talked about what various Xbox studios are working on, and dished on the industry at large. And he was also honest about Xbox no longer being part of any console war, as it shifts to selling Xbox games on other consoles, like PlayStation.

“I would love to make all of the money for all of the games that we ship, right? Like, obviously we make more on our own platform,” said Spencer. “It’s one of the reasons that investing in our own platform is important. But there are people, whether it’s their libraries on a PlayStation or Nintendo, whether it’s they like the controller better, they just like the games that are there.”

“I’m not trying to move them all over to Xbox anymore,” added Spencer.

Now, I don’t expect that to mean the sudden cessation of manufacturing of current Xbox hardware. I’m not entirely sure I believe that any of this means we won’t get another generation of the console at some point, either.

But I can see that happening. And everyone can already see how Microsoft has begun to pivot away from focusing on its console, has begun a far greater foray into cloud gaming through the Xbox Game Pass platform, and it has even begun moving away from the exclusivity we wrung our hands over months ago

  • Generally it's just better to ask, even if you were legally / ethically / morally in the clear.

    • if someone doesn't want it, it's going to turn them against peertube / fediverse platforms
    • they might not understand what it is, and use their platform to share those feelings

Meanwhile if someone DOES want it, letting them know will give them the option to do it themselves. It makes less work for you, and they will feel invested. If they want it and they don't want to upload it themselves, at the very least they'll let their viewers know that peertube is an option.

As for the legal/moral side, I still feel like there's a reason why you shouldn't do this but I'm not aware of what that might be.

  • Thank you for making that, and sorry for the delay. It's been updated in the post and sidebar now!

  • We need some more activity there for sure. There are a lot of users here from Vancouver, we just don't seem to use the community much

  • We've been setting up for the past week or so, and we opened registration yesterday :)

  • Sure, but that makes it unhelpful as a source if it always picks the null hypothesis (for lack of a better way to describe what it's doing)
