  • This is really a denial of the authority and expertise of public health officials. Vaccines COULD be more dangerous than the diseases they prevent (theoretically...doubt it has happened for other reasons), or at least have side effects that make the vaccines not worth giving to everyone. Like the smallpox vaccine isn't given to everyone anymore because it just isn't worth the cost/benefit analysis anymore.

But if a vaccine doesn't pass the cost/benefit analysis, it doesn't get approved for common use. That is the job of public health officials. So that 31% are all wrong if they mean "all vaccines" or "currently widely available vaccines" which they almost certainly do.

  • Damn I actually think this is a good idea.

It wouldn't be /r/politics but paywalled... they might even force the top X subs to be free.

It would be more akin to a Patreon community or a substack readership. There are paywalled communities around, who might like the reddit form factor.

  • I like the guy but isn't the Occams Razor answer that the guy making $127k/year with no mortgage DOES have investments of some kind, they're just in his wife's name or not reported for some reason?

  • Yeah this is classic Trump actually, the famous difference between a Bullshitter and a Liar. He's a Bullshitter because he doesn't care what the truth is, he just says whatever will help him. Biden is re-joining the race. Covid restrictions will end by Easter 2020. He won the 2020 election. Obama is a secret Muslim with a fake birth certificate. Just whatever. He gets called out on these things and just sticks with them.

A Liar has a relationship with the truth but says the opposite. A Bullshitter has no relationship with the truth.

  • Could be Metamucil but that would mean Joe Biden is...old! Gasp! Who knew?

Or it could be Gatorade. But that would mean he didn't choose the superior blue flavor! Impeach!

  • I don't think I'd be campaigning for Trump with the word "Chaos"...that is really something that calls back to Trump tweeting nuclear threats against North Korea, hiring Mike Pompeo and firing Rex Tillerson in one tweet publicly before informing them, the Covid mishandling ("re-open by Easter 2020")...on policy folks might just disagree but it's standard politics. The Chaos of the Trump presidency was uniquely of his own making.

  • I don't think it's on purpose really, it's just that sports is like the only case where being a trans woman could be a benefit, so it's a critical part of the right wing attacks on trans people.

But then they just look crazy when they see there are more CIS child molesters than trans women in the Olympics, like surely if it was appropriate to be so mad about trans women dominating in sports you would have them showing up in the Olympics.

So they just had to invent a situation, and if it wasn't the CIS woman they decided on, they would have found someone else.

  • Fetterman’s advisers suggested to Harris’ team that the senator believes that Shapiro is excessively focused on his own personal ambitions. His reservations about Shapiro reflect a long-running rivalry between the two ambitious Democrats, who have risen on parallel tracks in a politically crucial state.

I don't know if Fetterman is right to have concerns about Shapiro for VP, but I do believe he feels that way, personally. Like this isn't Fetterman saying he's concerned Shapiro doesn't have enough foreign policy experience or whatever, it's Fetterman saying he thinks Shapiro is kind of a dick.

  • Ivory tower elite who became mayor of a nothing city in his 20s with less than 11k votes, sweet talked Party Bosses enough to get the nepotism cabinet slot formerly given to Mitch McConnell's wife and Bob Dole's wife.

I like him, I just don't think he'd be a good VP pick. Let him run for Michigan's US Senator (or Governor if Whitmer runs for president), now that he lives there. Winning statewide in a swing state is a resume builder.

  • I think Buttigieg, Whitmer, Pritzker are bottom tier and I'd be really surprised.

Beshear and Walz I think are the next tier, they don't bring a state along with them but they're solid politicians, safe choices.

Kelly and Shapiro are the top tier.

Kelly can help tip/solidify AZ and he has border cred and military experience, probably my top choice and I think you just have to deal with the Senate thing.

Shapiro has been extremely pro-Israel, that exacerbates a party issue and could turn off some voters on the Left, and that's a bigger concern to me than losing the Senate seat which is why he's not my top pick, but you also have to realize that PA is almost the whole ballgame this year. If Harris can win PA and the obvious states then she just needs one of Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina.

  • The contenders to be named before a joint rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday were widely reported to include four governors – Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Tim Walz of Minnesota and JB Pritzker of Illinois – one senator, Mark Kelly of Arizona; and one member of Biden’s cabinet, Pete Buttigieg, the transportation secretary.

6 people. Nobody else really mentioned except Whitmer but she would be a long shot.
