I was responding to the second paragraph where they said that Democrats need to message better. I believe a lot of the topics they gave as examples that the Democrats could push in their messaging was in the State of the Union.
The economy is a really easy target for someone to point to to claim a president is doing well or poorly. Really whenever someone makes a claim about "the economy" in general without specifying which metrics they're talking about and why those are relevant, they're full of it and just using it to make the list of pros or cons longer.
I'm still in my 20s and I'm more or less a layman as far as economics go. Ever since I started paying attention to politics, the economy has simultaneously been doing extremely well and poorly depending on who you ask, and they can use a whole mess of different metrics to explain why they're right. Meanwhile the only thing I really notice is the price of gas, groceries, or rent.
It seems that we live in two different economies: a good one for people that support the president, and a bad one for those that don't.
Just wanna point out to the thread in general that this isn't just surveying a bunch of people asking "on a scale of 1-10 how happy are you?"
The World Happiness Report uses six factors as predictors of life evaluation: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and corruption.
Edit: the video linked actually doesn't make much mention of the survey mentioned in the headline.

Because we are better than most countries by these metrics
I'm not really in those circles but I feel like the timeline is wrong here. I don't think young men see these figures, then venture out parroting them and crash their metaphorical bicycle. I think the bicycle crash is what makes them seek out that content. Maybe that's how it's working with very young men who are just now starting to talk to girls, idk.
The problem from where I stand is that conventional advice on how to get attention from women doesn't work like it used to. Young men are entering the world and finding that they're just not as attractive as their mothers have been telling them their whole life, and setting yourself up to have a decent income isn't the selling point that the older generation told us it was.
So you either focus on other areas of your life and maybe you happen into some kind of relationship, or you look to adapt to this world of dating apps and hook-ups and you probably end up unsatisfied for a number of reasons, and that's when someone turns to the manosphere.
Idk, if all the discussion on Lemmy was 'damn this place sucks' then I wouldn't want to share it with my friends. Maybe it is just a bad take though lol I'm not feeling too hot on it reading it back now
The smugness can be a bit annoying but I interpret it as mostly jokes and healthy for the growth of the platform. I am enjoying myself more here than on Reddit, and when I see that others share that sentiment (smugly or not), it does embolden me to encourage my friends to give Lemmy a try.
I like a few of these communities, and I've had some nice conversations on some things I'm passionate about. But it seems like the population outside my small communities is dominated by violent wanna-be political activists competing for who can express the most outrageous sentiment.
Advocating against violence against one's parents in a hypothetical situation where a parent developed the wrong US politics not only got me downvoted, but also replied to by some asshole from Australia who wanted to rub it in that I was clearly in the out-group.
I don't normally reply when I see things like that, but after seeing so much vitriol I felt the need to leave a comment. I won't be doing it again.
Iirc there was a whole thing when Joker came out where people were trying to diagnose the Joker with some combination of real conditions, and the actor/writers came out and said nah we just gave him a bunch of behaviors generally accepted as dangerous red flags
I am abroad and have lots of friends that won't download WhatsApp, so I use Instagram to contact them. Also, a couple of family friends have reached out to me with news or something. It does have a niche for me as a messaging app like Facebook, even if the only reason I use it is simply because other people won't not use it.
Violence is bad and you should rethink your attitude towards people on the Kool-Aid. Anyway go ahead and explain me the paradox of intolerance like I haven't seen it a thousand times, I don't care.
Where can I get this as a blank template?
