  • Maybe not by definition, but in terms of operations, yes. If it wasn't operated like a private company, it wouldn't need a union.

And guess what union is probably the largest in the US?

National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC)

  • Many "government" entities in the US are private for-profit companies: Postal Service, vehicle licensing, electric companies, water companies, which control the very infrastructure of everyday life.

    Capitalism.

  • The strategy is to get you onto a different platform to make instant messaging easier. They are just "advertising" on Lemmy.

Once you're on a chat platform, they will likely attempt the "Romance Baiting" (formerly "Pig Butchering") scam: make the target fall in love, then persuade them to send money for things like "travel expenses" or "family medical bills". Also involves buying crypto.

  • That..seems like a language i could learn, and could probably be taught in schools as a second language.

I feel like the only reason we use English as much as we do is tradition. Time to break tradition.

  • How to avoid getting scammed:

    • DO NOT SEND MONEY
    • DO NOT ACCEPT MONEY OR CHECKS
    • DO NOT GIVE CREDIT CARD DETAILS
    • DO NOT OPEN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WHILE SOMEONE IS CONNECTED TO YOUR DEVICE
    • CALL THE INSTITUTION THAT THE OTHER CLAIMS TO BE AND VERIFY THE INFORMATION THEY PROVIDED
    • DO NOT PAY FOR SOMETHING YOU KNOW IS STOLEN OR ILLEGAL TO PURCHASE
    • BE AWARE OF COMMON SCAM SCRIPTS AND TACTICS
    • IF YOU FALL IN LOVE ONLINE, MEET THEM IN PERSON
    • DO. NOT. SEND. THEM. MONEY.
  • I'm undiagnosed, uneducated, but I haven't held a job longer than a year after 12 years in the workforce. I lose interest in the job a month in, usually right after training and getting a grip of it.

All the Jobs I've had were min. wage entry level junk. I haven't worked anywhere that had vertical movement. These types of job are mind numbing, the culture is awful, and it's borderline slavery.

I don't self-medicate with alcohol, caffiene, or smoking, as nearly all of my colleagues do. Therefore, I don't tolerate things that are "normal".

I think everything we are forced to do will result in burnout. Work, chores, homework. If we have to do it to get by, it's going to burn us out at some point. You can either cope by self-medicating, or find a new job that sounds interesting to you.

In many states, work is at-will. You are allowed to leave at any time. If there is a better opportunity for you (not just financially, but mentally) take it.

  • Genuine opinion: Who cares?

Who cares if what we enjoy is changing, at all. It's kinda like if you go to a bowling alley, to go bowling. Do you show up and decide to bowl if there's other people bowling or not? I'm gonna go bowling regardless, that's why I went to the bowling alley.

  • I relate. Marketing myself feels like lying at best, or trying to get people's money at worst. I wish I could just say "hey I made this thing, i hope it helps in some way" without putting a price tag on it.
