  • It's going to rain. I'll be nesting. Might bake some bread. Just started playing Greedfall, so I'll probably put some hours into that.

Beyond that, I'll hit up a couple 12-step meetings, as I do. Maybe hit the Saturday farmers market?

Dunno. The main goal is to trick myself into not thinking about work for two days.

  • I don't know if you're trolling or just don't get the argument.

If a company needs employees, they have to make the positions that they offer attractive, otherwise their workers will find different jobs. If an employer cannot or will not adjust to a changing labor market, they fail.

Call it Dutch Disease if you want, but that doesn't change the equation.

    Employees aren't a right either.

  • I'm not, but the PR guy at work still does most of his communication there. It's because that's where both news and rumors spread. If you're not active, you come back and suddenly everyone is convinced you've done, or have plans to do something horrible. You basically have to sit there and deal with the abuse, just in case you actually have done something horrible. He isn't a particularly happy guy.

I used to post amateur photography there. I do still miss the community. It was far more engaged and supportive than anywhere else I've found.

  • You think right. That's essentially what I was trying to say. To amplify, there's also going to be almost no opportunity to use any vocabulary learned watching American football. You'd be like that weirdo who can't shut up about rugby.

  • American football just isn't a thing in any other country I've visited. If you want to follow and become a fan of a team, It's going to be soccer, maybe baseball in the Caribbean.

There are other sports that are televised in various countries, but for pure fan passion, it's local futbol all the way.

You know what it's like at the "Irish Pub" during the world cup, when everyone packs in and you can't help but yell your head off for a goal scored by someone you've never heard of? That's what you get for a random Boca Juniors match in Buenos Aires. It's absolutely infectious.

  • Congratulations!

I went from earning $12 under the table to 6 figures in 5 years. It's a really major change. Once you have a year or two of that, and enough saved to survive basically any adversity, you realize how stressful your life was before.

    Some unsolicited advice:

Budget. I've never been good at it, so this is my strategy:

    1. I Keep two months' basic expenses in checking account. Food, gas, rent, phone, internet, insurance, loans.
    2. At the end of the month I transfer the remaining money to 3 accounts: 1/4 to long-term savings (this was initially my 3-month emergency fund, but turned into something more blended with a 3-month reserve). 1/4 to short-term savings (travel, gifts, clothes, fun). 1/2 to investments (stocks, ETFs, etc).To start out, all the money went into the long-term account. Having 3-month's savings is the true key to both feeling safe and avoiding credit card debt.

That's it. Literally. If I transfer less money at the end of the month, I either overspent or had some annual "surprise," like auto registration, Prime bill, etc. If I transfer more, it was a successful month.

  • This is the real answer. Sulfur Dioxide would basically eliminate any other odors. I'm thinking ozone would be a possible addition, along with whatever that metallic smell is, but nothing biological, no rot, etc.

  • I had this idea, years back, to start a subreddit for missed photos, IMAP instead of ITAP—"I missed a picture." I was going to make it a paragraph description, but this would be just as good.

Edit: guys, see how this is all in the past tense? I'm not going to be doing it. I don't want to be a mod.

    1. Go to your library! They likely have Mango or other app-based programs for free with your card.
    2. Go to your library! They likely have access to Paul Noble's audiobooks. I'd consider those to be the best ice-breaker for languages available.
    3. Seriously, even if you have to buy them, Paul Noble.
  • I generally prefer homemade stuff. Xvideos is really the only answer for that. I also really have trouble with PornHub's UI. It's really hard to force desktop layout, and I really don't like scrolling through single videos.

  • Most of them?

I mean, these things are grossing hundreds of millions, and I haven't been to the movies in almost a decade, don't have TV, and seldom stream anything like TV or movies.

My video habits have gotten much more personal over the years. I'll watch specific adaptations, and specific YouTubers, but that's about it. For my brain-mush time, I generally play videogames and listen to audiobooks.

  • I'm in my mid 40s and, due to many things, it's too late for me. They won't shift without falling out.

I had half my teeth extracted last year, currently waiting on tens of thousands of dollars worth of implant and bridge work. If my teeth had been aligned, I'd still have some bad ones replaced, but it would've been far simpler.

    Do it OP.
