  • I'm actually in that group 1 position right now, in a LatAm A320 premium economy seat. Besides the service upgrade and baggage allowance, it's just economy with the center seat reserved. Oh, and free messaging WiFi, too, which somehow includes Lemmy Sync.

  • I get that it's a hassle to find overhead space late, but I've never been in a situation where there wasn't anywhere at all to put my bag. At the very least, the flight crew can usually put it aside somewhere.

Granted, I haven't flown US domestic in years, so the nightmare might be worse than I imagine.

  • I'm in Chile right now. I have a local phone number and 20 gb for 30 days. eSIMs are amazing. I paid by at least 4x, getting Movistar through an app before I left, but my phone worked on the tarmac and I got to spend my first day exploring, rather than looking for a mobile shop.

  • I'm fine with an afternoon with nothing to do, but I'd really rather be at home. The day progresses slower without something to do. Four hours can feel like six if all I'm doing is checking my email every half hour. It feels like two hours when I'm in full flow mode.

  • Adding carbon steel to this, because I love my pan, and my mother-in-law (who lives to cook) can use it without arthritis pain. She always used to complain about the cast iron hurting her joints when she lifted our other pans.

What I'm also curious about is the ceramic coated pans. I've seen them advertised (I think Green Pan, whatever). I would like a lighter alternative to Le Crouset that I could cook acidic foods in.

  • We had a brace of rented Nissan cargo vans at work, the small ones. Those were truly terrible. They had CVT transmissions that just would not hook up. I'd get to the top of an SF hill at a stop sign and just sit there with my foot planted, waiting.

We replaced them with Ford Transits. The CVT in that model is only slightly more usable, but we all still fight over who gets the older model, with the torque converter.

  • We are two people and run the dishwasher every 2-3 days, but it's really nice to go lazy and throw a pot or pan in there, along with a few plates. You're not gonna get away with that if you go with the little dishwasher.

Also, you're basically using the same amount of energy and water either way. Probably less for the larger one if you compare them full.

  • I know. We actually don't (can't) force OT. Strictly voluntary, with a 12-hour maximum.

Unfortunately (on this topic) I'm the acting Supervisor, so it kinda sorta falls in my lap when everyone says no. I don't actually have to do it, but if I don't, then there would be fairly major reporting problems with the state, not to mention public safety issues, and that would be more trouble than adjusting my schedule every once in a while.

We're, like almost all city positions, critically understaffed. Hiring is slow, but hopefully we get a new crop of people to train in the next several months.

  • Ok this is now splitting my brain too many ways.

It isn't Sunday night there, is it? It's Monday morning at UTC-9. Shouldn't it be Monday afternoon there?

Oh. Wait. You have Easter Monday off, don't you? I think I get it.

Sorry. I've been up since 00:30.
