I'm a little on the flipside with this one. I'm figuring it out that some of the best things out there, aren't usually the ones that cost a premium. It just boils down to what that something is and whether you want it's best version. Like, some of the brand-names in stores aren't usually some of the best that's out there compared to generic brands. I know this from some of the review videos I've watched like Project Farm on YouTube.

I'm going to step in and kindly disagree. You're living one life, your own. When you've experienced what you feel that there is to experience and all that, then things stop being personally exciting for you. Everyone's lives is different from one another with shared generalities.

People and I've been beaten over the head with it too, were marketed to believe that to make it successfully in life is to go with tech. The problem is that most of the people didn't begin with the chops to even understand tech to begin with and yet they try. That's why you see these people working in tech when they shouldn't be. Some are in tech because they got the obvious leg-up, word in about them through a friend which is common. And usually they're managing departments or sectors of tech that they have absolutely no grasp of but they're there for the gravy train of money because working in tech is where some big money is.

I truly believe that innovating the internet is really running in place. Might be just me but I can't think of anything we can really do, to 'evolve' it. We're doing everything that we've been doing in the past three decades, but it's only just been more accessible and the speeds faster (depending where you are). But we're not actually moving the needle when it comes to progressing the internet as a whole.

And I see it this way as to why. We've experienced two big booms in Web 1.0 and Web 2.0, with Web 1.0 being what some consider the Wild West of the internet. Web 2.0 is basically the great social media bubble that has blossomed for years. We're not doing anything new or different now than we did back in 2007. Every new social media platform that comes out is recycling the exact same things as many before it presented. I truly think we stopped evolving the internet the day we managed to get messengers onto phones when phones were developing and it's only been perfected by the age of the first wave of smartphones.

So I just think with all of this AI stuff, this "Web 3.0" I've been hearing about for a few years now, the Metaverse .etc are all just gimmicks. Gimmicks of shitty ideas coming from the wrong people that should be practicing said ideas, all saying that they're innovating the internet when all that they're doing is just taking advantage of the internet for themselves. All within political theater of course.

Lemmy wasn't made with the promise of higher-end discussions or intellectual thought. Rather, the Fediverse wasn't constructed with that in mind. It was made as an alternative to escape the grand enshittification that has poisoned the wells of Reddit, Twitter, Facebook and other overly-centralized social media platforms.

So I think you're really aiming too high for what you seek on here. I've noted and seen very clear similar behavior on some parts of the Fediverse as I would on Reddit. You really can't escape it because it's not strictly a social media platform thing. That's what many people continue to fail in realizing. It does not matter where you go, because you will find groups of no-life assholes with nothing better to do than to instigate fights and shit on everyone's parade for their amusement. Along with other bullshit they do like victimizing themselves and crying to mods with made-up stories to get you banned.

It's an internet thing and the internet in it's entirety is bigger than any social media platform because those social media platforms are simply just parts of the bigger picture. So my point is, is that anyone can be an asshole, but there are always going to be dedicated assholes who live that kind of lifestyle everywhere you go. Going from Social Media Platform A to Social Media Platform B or to Social Media Platform C will not fix that. To be quite frank with you, I find it easier to stick with one community so that way you don't have to deal with the chances of dealing with the potential assholes who're going to be under different names.

And it also depends on how well moderated a community is. Keep this in mind.

Groceries will be affordable. But Nearly all Restaurants will be out of business.

Abortion Rights would be restored and codified, LGBTQ Rights would be codified, Workers Rights would be strengthened and we'll adopt a newly christened Migrant Rights But getting into certain job fields will be harder

American Politicians will no longer be corrupt But we will enter a World War to make it happen

Your privacy will be stored as an act will pass for companies to no longer mooch data off from you You will have to endure a life of nothing but verification checks

They could just rack up any reason they can think of to deport people.

"You're a terrorist, get out" which was actually a thing in the 2000s in America.

"We think you're not paying anything, get out"

I mean they must have a roulette wheel somewhere to spin and whatever it lands on, is their reason to deport you.

Let us know when Steam offers free games that isn't freemium garbage that wants to mooch off of you for money, honey.

Yeah I mean, it's silly as shit.

Both Epic and Valve are like multi-billionaires in the gaming industry. So it's silly to me that people are rah-rah'ing for one billionaire over another billionaire. And please spare me the launcher comparisons, I know Steam is like feature rich, though it is because of it's stupid social features and built-in Chromium browser that it had to cut off old OS support.

I don't care for any of that shit, game is a game.

I generally do not care that much about my privacy unless:

I'm confronting an individual who has too much disposable time to themselves to openly dox me down to where I work to threaten it.

Data/Security breaches where the company goes "uhhh...whoopsie!" in response.

Bank accounts suddenly having transactions I know I didn't authorize.

Other than that, I'm one of the few that aren't too tied up with shrouding everything I do online. It just seems more like that if I act more suspicious, then it'll attract people who keenly want to know more about me than I'd like. I just know enough not to do stupid things like making my real name my screen name or shamelessly sharing info and pretend that it won't be tracked or traced.

If you cover your tracks better, things are fine. It's just you're more annoyed with specific ads based on your preferences.

I want to be able to buy out the entirety of my geeky/nerd knick knack store. But I most likely won't because I'd feel cluttered with so many figurines and other stuff that I'd end up donating it.

I would say I'm 75% addicted. Like without it, if it shuts off for prolonged periods, what am I down to? I'm down to just books and whatever I acquired to make available offline like downloaded games and I've got quite a media collection going to delve into.

What I'll miss the most of it is being in contact with those I've established a connection with such as online friends. The longer I go without speaking to them, the more things will feel hollow.

What still gets me is how there are Americans who're still obliviously indecisive when they are presented, clearly, with one option being detrimentally worse than the other. And still can't make up their minds.

"Uhhhhhhhhh dis guy has bad plans and uhhhhhhhhh I don't know if they're good or not. Wait, maybe...ummmmmmmm I...don't know, I mean I guess? I don't think struggling to make ends meet is that bad but I'm not sure....I don't think I'll have health care in the future if I go with this guy...I...I can't decide!"

I really don't like it when people say "The country spoke" like, excuse you, but I didn't vote for Trump so don't you dare assume that I did.

71 million people spoke out of the 334.9 million in America. 150 million americans did vote while 90 million didn't.

Biden had the same challenges Obama did when Obama had his terms. Republicans got in the way. But Obama was still dealing with moderate and crazy but tamed Republicans who still sided with Bush at the time and propped McCain and Romney to oppose him.

Biden was going up against a more insane breed of Republicans who've gotten a nice dosage of the first 4 years with Trump, who've turned the country upside down and all around. Everything was going to be an uphill battle moreso than Obama's struggle was.

If they were educated, they wouldn't support Trump.

I'd rather him die a martyr, a symbol for all to look up to. Rather Luigi than Trump.

I am not one of those children that clutches their pearls for family members to give what they busted their ass for away for free. My father just paid off the mortgage of his home. It is his.

And he paid it for over 25 years as people like us lived in and left it. It is just unearned entitlement for any of us to come to him, demanding or expecting something he earned through hard work.

And it is something generations after his wont understand. You try being 66 years old and enduring the grind for so long to finally have something like a home to yourself. And not have a thought of reluctance of just giving it away.

It is ironic considering how much of a clutch todays generations have with their phones. Does anyone think they are the kind to give a home away when it is paid off? You tell me.
