  • "The government shouldn't be complicit in harming students or impeding parents' ability to decide what their kids see by subsidizing unsupervised access to inappropriate content,"

    Like Fox News or OAN.

  • This. Eventually, some billionaire will buy up BlueSky and make it shitty. It's much harder for one person to take over a defederated platform, spread out over hundreds of instances in several countries.

  • The ADL's job used to be to protect Jewish people from discrimination. Now, it's pretty obvious they exist to protect the policies of the Israeli government.

So if your government is current engaged in a slaughter, who would rather have on your side in the U.S. government? An apartheid-loving fascist or someone who might actually criticize your actions?

  • The AI hardware isn't for us. It's for Google and Microsoft, so they can steal your computer's CPU time and hard drive space so they can build their own personal Skynets. (Same thing with CoPilot, which requires 50gigs of your hard drive space. You're also paying for the privilege of being spied on, which is nice for them, I guess.)

  • " . . . giving Rednote access to their data as a show of protest . . ."

That's a special kind of stupid.

  • This. The fact that u.s. police forces are infiltrated by racist sh*theads is one of the worst-kept secrets on Earth.

  • I think the best way to make the Internet less sh*tty is to get away from Google search.

I like the SearX search engine. It gives old-school, relevant search results, not google ranked ones.

    https://search.inetol.net/

It's also spread out over many separate instances, so you can pick the one that best suits your search needs:

  • Collect all your evidence into one large archive, upload it somewhere and make it known that if you die of anything other than natural causes, that information will become available to EVERYONE.

Read up on how "dead man's switches" work. If you don't send a signal online, log into a particular account on a regular basis, that sends the release signal.

  • That is just exploding with irony.

  • If a million porn sites can make streaming video work, then YouTube is replaceable.

  • The article was incredibly light on specifics. What were the hateful / threatening messages? Why would anyone have a problem with helping developers find new jobs? Why were those developers fired in the first place?

  • Authoritarian regimes must control the flow of information if they want to continue to exist. Just because they can disconnect themselves from the rest of the world doesn't mean they've "taken down the Internet. "

  • Also, do you really NEED to sleep?

  • "Anyone who MUST say they are an alpha is NOT an alpha." - Tywin Lannister.

  • When you consider the billions that are at stake in cramming "AI" into computers, cars, phones, agit-prop generation and military hardware, I there's a non-zero chance that his death wasn't accidental. Maybe a second coroner's opinion is in order.

  • This. As a juror, you can absolutely vote to not convict someone if you think they're being prosecuted under an unjust law. Just don't mention "jury nullification" in front of a judge or prosecutors. They hate that.

  • I know his name. Muad'Dib!

  • 6.5 gigs. "Proceed with installation? y/n"

Yeah, I guess. Fark getting any work done today.

  • Just "x10" with metric. With imperial, it's usually "how many rods to a hogshead" or short tons and long tons or fathoms vs leagues.

  • This. And if folks are worried that their computer's hardware won't be supported (wifi, touchscreen, mousepad, soundcard or a weird mobile graphics driver) I recommend testing it by booting from a live linux flash drive. If everything works with the live version, it should work with the installed version, too.
