Add a zero to that, no way tiktok would sell for anything less than several billion. Facebook paid $1B for Insta over 12 years when the app had around 25 million users.

I’d defend myself, but I work in digital marketing so I’m not going to dissuade anyone from using AdWords.. I mean Android.

No… use the resources that you’d waste on testing for actual proven tactics. And not to sound cold hearted, but it’s a lot more effective to prevent addiction than to “cure” it. All of which is ignoring that you’re going to waste a lot of money on lawyers as this has been struck down several time’s now.

I do strongly agree this is a state and federal issue as cities are shouldering the overwhelming majority of the burden. They are being forced to deal with the symptom (drugs/crime), but have virtually no means of addressing the root causes of a problem that usually start somewhere else.

Again addiction isn’t a moral failing and pushing people out of the system is not going to solve a surge in fent deaths. Sure there’s a very realistic chance you’ll lower the ODs in SF as you push people into other towns and cities, but you’re not saving lives just leaving the problem on someone else’s doorstep.

There’s not a silver bullet for this addiction issue, but depriving people of any semblance of economic security is going to be counter productive.

Some of us see drug use as a health issue and not a moral imperative. Money is fungible, so if they’re using welfare dollars to buy drugs instead of smashing car windows to get their fix, that’s probably a net positive even if it isn’t ideal.

And if you’re just trying to get more people into treatment, I’m not sure piss testing the poor is remotely the most cost effective approach.

Tire runoff is nasty. There’s recently been salmon die off in the NW from a preservative chemical in tires.

A Reddit user is $2 now, but they have terrible ad targeting. Reddit users volunteer troves of info about themselves, so even a modest effort to start tying all those user signals together could be a great boost to that number (which really wouldn’t take much). Plus monetizing that base for LLM data and you got a stew going. They’ll of course do the cash grabby enshitifying stuff too, but their user data is much more underutilized than facebooks at the moment.

It’s not splitting hairs, it’s a fundamental difference. My mother and my niece are friends on Facebook but they don’t follow each other on TikTok. Hell most people who are close friends IRL don’t even follow each other on TikTok. There’s no brand cache for old people to ruin its just a tool.

Sure kids will move on to something new eventually, but it’s waaaay more likely to be cause all the ‘eligible for commission’ videos make it feel like the Home Shopping Channel not cause old people (continue to) use it.

Again, Facebook and TikTok operate differently. One is a social network, the other is a short form video platform. A social network is inherently dependent on its users. Did YouTube die when it became widely adopted??

I hate to break it to you my not-so-tech-savvy friend, but boomers on tiktok is not going to destroy tiktok like it did Facebook. The algo will basically only show their content to other boomers and young people will largely be unaware of it.

So long as your perspective isn’t on the other side of these whales, than yes.
