  • One Celsius has 200 mg of caffeine while one espresso drink from home has about 80 mg. Sometimes I still feel tired after drinking my coffee but I definitely feel less jittery and stressed.

  • That’s why it always gives me a headache

  • I get the worst nausea whenever I drink something from a k cup machine. Nobody ever cleans their machine and the ingredients are questionable.

  • I noticed more crashes when I was browsing multiple instances vs my local instance on iOS

  • Big printer companies need to be regulated better by the FTC. The whole cartridge issue is a waste of resources and costs a lot more than it costs to produce.

  • I just don’t trust Firefox. The Mozilla Foundation is just a front for their corporate side, the Mozilla Corporation which somehow reaps in millions in profits despite being a free browser. I read that most of their profits come from letting Google integrate search and other features into Firefox. I’m currently migrating to Librewolf for PC which has the same framework but lots more privacy functionality. For iOS, Brave collects a lot less information about you than Firefox- check the App Store pages for each browser and compare.

  • Same here, I have YT watch history turned off and have ads blocked through Brave (I know I know, I’m trying to find a better browser) and haven’t seen anything at all yet, on my pc or phone.

  • We need to think about what people did before YouTube. It was already gaining traction around 2006, but before that you could still watch videos on different websites, it was just decentralized and videos were hosted on smaller pages. You might even see a website dedicated to a single video. YouTube’s incredibly convenient, but internet video can and will survive without it.

  • They get paid by YouTube regardless, and YouTube makes enough from data harvesting alone.

  • If anyone wants a real and fully functional version of this, check out the pwnagotchi. You can build it yourself or you can buy a prebuilt one. Good for on-the-go network analysis.

  • The only reason I still use YouTube is to post to lemmy and download videos so I never have to use their crappy platform

  • Sometimes it feels like the Barista Manifesto on here but that will even out with time. This is brand new and lots of people are flailing around trying to shape the platform to their views. Just remember that this is for everyone- even if you get downvotes, don't be afraid to voice your opinion. Change starts with you! Remember that compared to corporate social media, you have the power to block anything that you don't want to see, even keywords. Kindness exists here, you just need to tailor the Lemmy experience to you.

We're happy to have you here and I hope that you find your niche!

  • Give it time! This is a little baby social network. If there is a niche community you want to see, you have all the power to start your own community- if there's one on Lemmy.world that you don't like then start your own version on a different instance!

All that being said, this information about open source and corporations are the things that corporate social media hid from you with their algorithms because they lose money- expand your horizons and you might learn a thing or two for the better! Don't be discouraged to share your own opinions no matter how much backlash you get- Lemmy is small enough that you have the ability to have your opinion heard by others.

We're glad to have you here!
