  • You're tripping if you think that:

    a. the media will cover this beyond an article or two b. libs would integrate this information, even if covered c. libs would ever question info from US intelligence officials

I still get libs citing the "Chinese spy balloon" even though the military put out a press release that the balloon transmitted no data. Media never boosted it, so they never saw it. Would be curious to see how they react if they did. I'd still bet on mental gymnastics like "only because cheap Chinese junk lololol"

  • This situation is interesting and IMO very revealing about Western media.

    1. Russia hates this guy because he's a fascist and collaborates with the West against the ruling order.
    2. Ukraine hates this guy because he's a Russian nationalist and supports the war and annexation of Russian-speaking Ukrainian territories.

So what does Western media do when those interests are at odds? Across the board, they put an enormous effort into supporting him.

What this reveals is that the interests of Ukraine are much less important to the US & its media apparatus than bludgeoning Russia. All the huffing and puffing about lives lost in Ukraine was not because they are mourning the loss of human life, but because it makes Russia look bad. This became a lot more obvious when they refuse to cover a far larger number of Gazan deaths with the same vigor.

  • Loosely, yes. At least for federal prisons. He has pardon power and can appoint the department heads for the DoJ and FBI.

I'd say Putin bears minimally that much responsibility in this case as well.

Either way, I wouldn't mourn an American nationalist dying in prison, and neither will I for a Russian nationalist.

  • I know you're getting roasted in the replies, but this is absolutely what most reasonable people would assume given the media atmosphere in the west right now.

It's just that western media is generally an unquestioning megaphone for the desires of the US national security apparatus because they'll lose access to information sources if they don't.

It's always worth exploring information from other sources, especially when it's about foreign affairs.

A good strategy for this is:

    1. Pick one country opposed to the West on a given issue
    2. Pick one country that is neither allied or opposed
    3. Search "

      <country>

      top news sites"
    4. Search the topic on a few of those sites. Translate pages if necessary.

I use an RSS feed reader, so when I find a source with English-language version of the site & an RSS feed, I add those to my geopolitics feed, tagging them by country and continent.

  • At large, they were wrong about the military buildup at the border not being for an actual invasion.

Dialectical materialism is just such an effective analytical tool that those who can apply it to current events wind up at accurate conclusions far more frequently than those who can't.

  • Hey, this user is reevaluating their original assumptions taking into account new information.

That is already a far step above the typical westerner response of pluging their ears and going "nuh uh" then accusing you of being a foreign intelligence agent.

  • What the terminal needs is better discoverability. Maybe command recommendation if it isn't going to hallucinate flags and paths that don't exist. All this bullshit is just some company trying to capitalize on that desire.

  • What diplomatic ends have been achieved under Biden? The US has explicitly stood against the rest of the world to oppose diplomatically ending the three new military engagements that have started under Biden.

And even then, diplomatic negotiations with whom and for whom? Security agreements with other honky nations to keep Africa from developing? Diplomatic naval bases in the Philippines directly escalating the risk of starting WWIII? I'm sure orphaned Gazan kids will be relieved to know that we have good diplomatic allies in the region.

I'd far prefer an erratic isolationist than someone who uses every opportunity to forcefully impose upon other nations. But again, Trump is no better in that regard.

  • I think the point they are trying to hint at is that it makes sense to try and understand the emergent forces that culminate in events as horrific as war.

You may "not believe in national interests" but something closely resembling that is a force governing social behavior.

So while it is important to pass moral judgements on these phenomena, you will be more effective at doing so if you can abstractly evaluate them absent moral judgement. Just as you couldn't coherently understand an ecology if you cannot accept obligate predators as a concept because of the moral implications of predation.

We will all differ in our moral and strategic assessments, but we all cohabit the same world, in which we can all recognize common truths arising from nature.
