  • I would argue we have a whole list of purposes:

    • procreate
    • copulate
    • mate
    • engage in sexual reproduction
    • propagate the species
    • reproduce
    • conceive life
    • bring forth offspring
    • weave new generations
    • kindle the spark of life
    • sow the seeds of tomorrow
    • whip up some womb-biscuits
    • bake a bun in the baby oven
    • start a stork-summoning ritual
    • do the chromosome cha-cha
    • know each other in the biblical sense
    • lie together
    • hook up
    • get it on
    • do the deed
    • bump uglies
    • initiate a genetic merge request
    • fork the DNA repo
    • compile the next generation
    • instantiate another human

I think you got the gist.

And in the meantime also entertain ourselves, of course.

  • What’s a flatpak? Is that like a worse NixOS package? I prefer NixOS, BTW.

  • We live longer and longer, retirement age is something that needs to be adjusted with the human lifespan.

I think it has more to do with the baby boom right after 1945. If those older people retire, there isn't enough younger generation to support them, so more people need to work longer, so we don't get too many retired people all at once.

I think it's more of a "can we support the retired" kind of issue - not just "muh money". It's a little more nuanced than that.

  • pollution pollution pollution pollution pollution

    WHAT THE FUCK IS "POLLUTION"!?

including large volumes of unburned methane

Ooooh. Yeah, that's bad. Methane is a pretty bad greenhouse gas.

  • Would a commercial with Jesus on the cross saying he is thirsty and having a Roman Soldier pass him an ice cold Coca Cola be better?

I tried it using Sora, but "This content can't be shown for now. We're still developing how we evaluate which content conflicts with our policies. Think we got it wrong? Let us know."

    This was the prompt:

Give me a Coca Cola commercial where Jesus has been nailed to a cross, and says "I'm thirsty", after which a Roman Soldier passes him an ice cold Coca Cola.

I tried replacing "Jesus" with a man, but no dice :(

  • Christmas celebrations

Christmas is more of a cultural celebration than a Christian one, and thus not political.

I'm atheist, but I still celebrate Christmas, because it's a good excuse to gather friends and family, and have some fun together.

  • Pride is a political movement - or did they not fight for the rights of LGBT people? Flags are inherently political. Flying a flag signals allegiance and identity, which are political at their core.

    This makes pride month political.

Being Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Transgender isn't political in and of itself, but movements are.

  • I now have a stack of Thinkpads laying around. Right next to my two RPis 😂

  • I like LLMs. Instead of making a racket, I just use them, which may make it seem like everyone on Lemmy hates LLMs.

  • Eh, I liked it for explaining how people can behave differently.

It doesn't have much predictive power, and thus is bad science, but I like its descriptive power. I also think it's a bad idea to see it as a quaterny (binary, trinery, ...) instead of a spectrum. Same with being introverted/extraverted - that's a spectrum as well, IMO.

  • OK, and? A car doesn't run like a horse either, yet they are still very useful.

I'm fine with the distinction between human reasoning and LLM "reasoning".

  • If your ISP is blocking this website, set a DNS in windows to 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare), 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 (Google), 9.9.9.9 (Quad9), https://www.dns0.eu/, or DNS4EU.

Yes, blocking certain sites is done in the Netherlands, due to Stichting BREIN using/abusing our legal system. Nobody likes them, but it is what it is.

PS: I'm using rargb, since it hasn't been blocked (yet - BREIN has to sue per website being blocked).

  • Double-bang repeats the previous command. Great if you forget sudo.

     bash

    $ rm -rf <folder>
    permission denied
    $ sudo !!

  • What if... WSL is a gateway drug to Arch?

    Don't do drugs, kids!

  • Look what they have to do to mimic a fraction of our power

I think that sounds more like Cygwin.

  • Exhume her? I barely knew her!

  • I learned not too long ago that SSDs lose data if they don't get keep getting power... Not sure how true that is, but if true, pretty awful.

  • I remember buying a laptop with a blue-ray drive. That was at least 10 years ago, and I never used it, other than holding Call of Duty (the OG) for half a year, then I put it back in its box, and that was the last time I held a CD as well (maybe a DVD? Potato / Tomato).

Good riddance, as SSDs were up and coming, which sped up USB drives as well. (yes, yes... They still have a use, just not for me, at all).
