That's a shame. Lenovo is your next best bet. If you are in Europe I would recommend Slimbook or Tuxedo.

If you have the money to spare and are based in the US, you could look at System76 laptops. They all have the latest hardware and coreboot. POP!_OS will allow you to do everything on that list for 7+ hours since you can install a foreign package manager like Guix, Nix, and Homebrew for all your tinkering needs and use flatpak for graphical applications.

Xorg will finally be put to rest at least. The wayland compositor is still a huge, monumental development, the excuses for using proprietary OSs will thin out.

I can't wait for the day when Windows 12 releases and we get to bully windows users even harder.

I'd recommend Debian 12/testing/sid with the Sway compositor. Homebrew, Nix and Guix can all be installed on top of any GNU/Linux distribution to provide containerized packages. Flatpak can be used to obtain the latest version of graphical applications as well. Terminals like alacritty and kitty are Wayland natives and Foot is widely considered to be the most minimal "default" terminal for Wayland compositors. You can use Sway's built in "swaybar" or status bars like Waybar and eww. Sway configuration is just like i3 where you can configure specific devices like keyboards and monitors from a single file.

Technical documentation of API, Language constructs, and usage (a la mandoc) should always have a standard-compliant (any widely accepted help manual format like mdbook or texi) text form licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License (FDL). This is to ensure that freedom 01 ("The freedom to study how the program works") is not obstructed in any way.

Videos are tougher due to having a much wider arrange of factors. First off, you'd want to make your videos accessible (using subtitles, on-screen graphics and not just a narration all the way through, translation to other languages). You'd also want to be able to share that video among your peers without obstruction. Just having it be hosted to a proprietary mass-media site like YouTube will not be enough. I have doubts about the "hit record and magic happens" premise, videos are a lot more daunting than text formats if you don't have the prerequisite equipment and skills beforehand.

If you really want to create videos, you should have a text alternative to the video or at least a technical summary of the video's topics attached alongside the video so that you can leverage both text and video alongside each other.

Another thing is that proprietary social media sites like Reddit and Twitter always follow the will of their (ruling class/parasitic) masters.

The control freaks at the very top are capitalists and thus their ideology is the dominant and unquestioned/unchallenged one.

This is an excerpt from the bash manpage. So likely no, this isn't a bad thing and this is just GNOME sourcing your environment variables. You need to tell us how frequent these notification are and when they happen (also what GNOME version you're using as well as which distribution you are using). We can't help you if you don't provide that.

Correction: POP!_OS has their own APT deb farm that has the latest hardware stack. This includes the proprietary 535 nvidia driver and later as well as the kernel and mesa.

I should have been more tactful, I am a university student who's not looking to go into software development and come from a bangladeshi working class immigrant background (second gen), so your remarks about needing to sell your labour are undeniable from me. I don't want to attack you but I want to push back on the narrative you've told me.

My main point was that there does not need to exist a nuance between "the people who believe all software should be libre" and the people who believe more or less the same thing but are coerced into creating nonfree software. We are both victims here of the same system.

I do not agree with dual licensing or "shareware." But if that's what you use then I can't change that for you. We likely don't even disagree on much past that.

What I do want to push back on is the idea that libre software is undermined at all by our own material realities, the opposite is true. My point with the James Gosling comment is that libre software does not claim anything other than the rights of computer users. It doesn't give us a blueprint of how to effect this system nor should it. Everyone should have equal rignts to computer science. Capitalism, thus, is incompatible with this ideal. We agree on this and this doesn't make you any more or any less of an adherent for free software and vice versa for me.

Non-software engineers can perpetuate nonfree software as well. I am not immune to this.

Should all software be libre? The answer is yes from both of us. There doesn't need to be a caveat.

I think it's an instance of self-deprecating humor. Misogyny does affect queer men as well.

But there's also people who are just gross and take it to heart (to the point of sexual harassment). It's pretty unfortunate, flatpak is the only thing that sandboxes .mozilla/ out of the home directory because the folks at mozilla will not patch in XDG desktop specifications.

I always license my personal projects as free for whoever wants to use it free and wants to contribute back. It's never free for commercial entities though because screw them profiting off of my free labour.

If you license your software in a way that has exceptions for certain groups, that license is not a libre software license. If I'm reading this correctly, you just have proprietary software. Corporations cannot be treated differently than individuals, it violates the GPLv3 and other free software licenses recognized by the FSF. Also shame on you for saying "free labour." Creating free software is not tied to "getting free labour," your labour was not gratis.
