We've had political, social and economic revolutions before without shit collapsing. Lots of death and destruction though generally. People don't give up power easily unfortunately.

This issue is actually surprisingly simple, no mutual obligations = no tax payer money going to welfare frauds (JSP system). Then we can start discussing how to reform employment support and what that would look like. But any system that's underpinned by mutual obligations will be deeply flawed.

Doesn't matter if it works better or worse (who gets to determine this and by what measure?), it's a matter of who benefits from ownership.

This whole agency and department needs to be completely overhauled. I'm fairly certain services australia are still breaking many laws in their day to day operations.They need to be put into crisis mode, have business as usual mode suspended, auto-approve payments, hire a fucktone more staff (permanently) and fix shit. I would have thought Shorten would have the political will to do something about this but he's been so disappointing.

Capitalism (depending on how you define it) is coming up on 600 years soon. That's usually the point at which systems start to break and new ones emerge. Unfortunately, if you're a fan of Marx you'll be aware of his theory that cycles of power relations and exploitation tend to reproduce themselves within these new systems - unless that cycle is broken.

I don't like the idea of celebrating death because there's usually at least one person who is mourning and deserves to be respected in that. If people were celebrating the death of my loved one then yeah i'd feel pretty shitty about that.

But there is a certain category of person where this doesn't apply. If you're famous for doing war crimes then your death should be celebrated. It's less about the person and more about what they symbolise. If you use your existence to bring such suffering upon the world then humanity kind of has a duty to celebrate the loss of that existence from the world.
