  • Trouble as in I'm in trouble if I do. I'm a formally educated it security engineer running my own incorporated software and infrastructure company. Firstly: people just hear "computer guy" and their second thought is "he can fix my stuff". So I stay near to the truth and simplify it: I'm a theoretical electrical engineer. Boom, instant bored face and they leave as fast as they can. My neighbors love me, but I haven't fixed a single of their computers in decades.

Also pro tip: the wife has the same qualifications as I, so she fixes her family's stuff herself. My job is to lug stuff and the kids around at home.

  • Try setting it to manually connect to that Bluetooth device. Then trigger the connect with the nfc tag. Stick it where you put your phone while driving. Disconnect when the tag is not present anymore.

  • Trump will ramble nonstop, hot mic rule will prevent them from moderating him (as if they would) and Harris will look bad because she has to endure his ramblings because getting into a shouting match will look worse.

  • If you do any industrial processing step which creates something harmful for the environment, your company is responsible for undoing that step after nobody wants the result any more.

This creates an incentive to recycle and build stuff to be able to deconstruct it's components. Less stuff in the landfills and more raw materials for recycling.

Let the consumer bear the cost by paying the real price of a product and not mother nature.

  • It's not about you being copied and destroyed. It's about of continued consciousness. You are continually being killed and replaced by neurons dying off and others replacing the function. The problem is getting the information off the neurons without copy and kill. The key would be continuous transfer of neurons over time to a more longlived replacement. So you is still you and not you thinks it's still you. Also... It's up for debate if that matters as you are still a copy if you do nothing. But it solves the continued consciousness problem.

  • I was testing some code late at night in the test system. Rolled out the changes, log on to the admin interface and write a short news article about how one of the more hated profs at the university had died suddenly and unexpectedly.

Result looks good, roll out changes to prod, about to call it quits for the night. Think to myself: common reason people get fired, maybe delete the story from test system. Check test system, no story there... Uhoh.

Story has been live for about three hours. Hope no spiders have caught it yet, hurry to delete it and learn how to purge all evidence from database.

Turns out the shithead admin had copy and pasted the server config for the test system from live and forgotten to change the admin rewrite rules to test system. Phew...

  • Miele is always a safe bet. We bought a Bosch modular vacuum with a wall mounted charging station. It's battery powered and you can swap the battery with your power drill. A little pricey but worth the quality. Especially the rug brush that used to be exclusive to Vorwerk vacuums.
